I would be fine if they were busy, but I was the only one in the department! They left me 20 mins while they sorted paperwork into boxes (3 of them!)

2 people came in shortly after me so it was obviously picking up but I don't see why they couldn't have been a bit nicer? All that had to be said was what you did above but I'm a 1st time mum and a bit scared so I don't need to be told that I'm not feeling what I know I am!

claree.. if you have been busy you may just have missed movements.. I have been feeling mine a good few weeks yet there are still days I don't feel it move because I have been dashing about like a nutter. It may also have been dancing all night while you are sleeping so havong a rest during the day! Growth spurts = lots of sleeping too so they can use the energy to grow rather than wriggle.

I found most of them to have such delightful attitudes in the maternity unit.. you expect them to be like that and if they are vaguely human you get a nice surprise. I've had some right charmers.

    Love the picture Dizzi! :)

Aw Clare, that's rough :( They can be useless sometimes, but don't take it to heart. 17 weeks is quite early to be worrying about movements so don't stress yourself out with it at this stage, but better to be safe than sorry. I didn't start feeling a pattern to the kicks until a few weeks ago (I'm 25+4) and I don't think they suggest that you count kicks until you are around 25 weeks. Do you know where your placenta is? Sometimes I don't feel the baby for ages, but I have an anterior placenta so I know that he is just in a position where the placenta is muffling his movements.

If you feel it is something that might make you panic you could always look into getting a cheap doppler so that you can reassure yourself - there are usually some good deals on Amazon...

Thanks for the reassurance ladies, it's really all I needed from the Mat Assess but never got!

I don't notice kicks when I'm busy but I spent a lot of yesterday/this morning concentrating on them, I've got my scan a week on Tuesday so hopefully that'll let me rest a bit easier. I've still not felt much if anything today.

I just hate that they tell you that if you're worried they're there to help but when you are worried they act like you're inconveniencing them!

I've not felt mine today either.. we wriggle on an evening usually. It is perfectly normal. I don't think I felt any yesterday either as I was busy.

I usually feel kicks in the morning, then again at around 2-3pm ish and then again at tea time when OH gets home and talks to bump and almost always at bedtime. Baby was quiet all yesterday afternoon, but I was really busy so I thought I probably was just too busy to notice. I got OH to talk to bump after work and that woke him up! :) He likes a bit of chat from his Dad :) When they get into a routine it is easy to worry if they have a quiet day.

They are not always prompt at dealing with your worries - I had really bad cramps at 16 weeks - it took me ages to get through to my community midwives and then when I did they said 'no you need to phone early pregnancy assessment at the hospital'. They were constantly engaged! So from waking with cramps at 5am, to phoning constantly from 8.30am to 10.30am, I finally got to talk to someone, but then wasn't seen until 2.30 that afternoon (well actually it was a half hr wait after my appointment time so more like 3pm). All I wanted was for someone to tell me if the cramps were normal or not! If they'd just passed me on to one of the midwives for a 2 minute conversation when I first rang I would have been reassured instead of waiting for hours and having to go all the way to the bloody hospital! Clearly I feel your frustration Clare! :rotfl:

Oh and by the way I heard that OBEM tonight is supposed to be really sad. I don't know any more than that, but I have decided not to watch it in case it upsets me. I just thought I would say in case anyone else feels like they might not want to watch it...

It is - a baby was born with a medical condition which, unfortunately, baby died from.

The parents wanted the programme to be aired because they wanted to more people to know about it.

I can't, for the life of me, remember the name of the condition but it was highlighted at the 20 week scan.

I'll watch it but only after my baby has been born. It will upset me too much otherwise!

This might seem very premature but has anyone looked into nursaries and costs? I don't wanna just call and ask about prices for a baby who's not even born yet but at the same time I don't want to fabricate a baby!
