    Hi all,
Also, now this is verrry personal. Personal grooming. I am struggling to shave my legs and whatnot. I have always used a razor and never ventured down the cream n leave route. Well, I tell a lie - I used a hair removal cream once (many moons ago) and it stank to high heaven so I never bought it again. Which are the better brands to use??

I use spray on Veet - very easy but despite the claims and the fragrances, it still stinks! I spoke to a friend about this a few weeks ago who has recently had a baby and she said that she got her other half to do it for her.

The spray is also good for bikini areas if you know what I mean with the aid of a mirror (I could never face waxing!).

Can't help with the hearburn - but I am suffering a bit from it myself also - and despite not normally being able to burp....it is happening quite a bit now! Anyone got any advice on swollen ankles - I don't really want to wear slippers to a wedding at the weekend!!!:rotfl:

Also I am currently potentiallly thinking of a home birth - anyone else planning one or had one?

Heartburn - Milk works for me, so not had to venture down the Gaviscon route. I've drunk 3 pints of full fat today now (and that's holding back), I'm going to be huge by the end of 9 months. I think it's my craving. I drank gallons of it last time too.

Other heartburn solutions - some people swear by lovehearts. And if it's really bad, being more elevated in bed can help. I had to do that a few nights towards the end last time or I'd throw up :s

Anyway, thats the background. The advice i am after is, as my wife wont be leaving hospital until the baby is born:

    1) what do you suggest i do to keep her sane and calm?

    2) what do you suggest she should do to kill time / keep her interested etc for the next (hopefully) 8 weeks?

Wow, that's a long time in hospital.

I'd want a laptop with internet (is there wifi to connect to?). None of this tablet business. Can't be doing without a proper keyboard.

TV - ours you have to pay for £10 for 3 days if I recall. Do you have that? I'd want decent headphones for it (I've already told OH I want the good headphones even if I'm just in for the day!) The ones at the hospital are pants.

Cross stitching is quite relaxing. I'm not good at needle work and that sort of stuff, but cross stitch is manageable. You could get her something to do with the nursery?

Maybe even having jobs to do...could she order the weekly shop online for you? Get quotes for any insurances? I know it sounds silly but maybe having 'proper' things to do can help pass the time a bit.

Has she seen Dexter? It's awesome. We've just watched seasons 1 - 7 in less than 3 months. We could have quite easily watched 8 episodes a day it's that good...

Also Game of Thrones. Only 20 episodes worth so far though...might only last 2 days.

  • Congrats to Dizzi and Mrs Hawarth2b on your babies!

Havent been on for a while due to a few things happening. Went for my appt with consultant last Thurs and ended up having a scan....weight approx. 5lb 10oz which is a decent weight for when I was 35+2 but she couldn't measure the head as it was quite far down. Went back into consultants office and was chatting about a few concerns ie cramps, heartburn and green CM and she said "oh well we might as well take a sample and perhaps have a little look "just incase" ha!!! Then I was examined (quite brutally I might add!) and she said "oh my goodness, you are 2cm and fully effaced, I can feel the head and spine of your baby!!!!!!" to which I nearly fell off the bed. She told me to finish work, pack our bags and that she didn't think I'd make a week without giving birth.

As you can imagine me and OH were in shock and stepped up our preparations a gear. I began mat leave early and then ended up in hosp for reduced fetal monitoring at midnight on sat night for 3 hours......little !!!!!! decided to start moving as soon as we got there mind, but all was well. MW couldn't understand why consultant had examined me as it had made us paranoid about everything. She said it was a bit unusual for someone at 35 wks to be 2cm dilated but not impossible. After spending the weekend on heightened alert, we've decided to go back to pre-consultant appt status and just pretend that we don't know any different! What will be, will be!

Oh and I think I've been loosing my plug over the last few days too, lots of green/clear-ish gooey stuff (sorry if TMI) coming out at various times. I still believe that I will go full term, and I'm 36 weeks tomorrow so nearly there.

Tonight I have a stitch like pain and don't quite feel myself but I think I may have overdone it a bit today with housework and going places. Must learn to relax more!

    Hope everyone's ok?

    Lou x
But I want a golden goose daddy and I want it right NOW!!!!!

    Yes Verucca dear. :rotfl:

Big Bang Theory is a good shout - more light hearted. Gossip Girl is my personal guilty pleasure. The Following and Suits are also goods, current series'.

If you have an iPad, drop me a PM and I'll send you a site where you can watch free movies/tv shows (okay, so I'm not sure how legal it is?)

Weighed myself this morning and I've only gained 0.25lb since last week, so I'm thinking I'll monitor it from now on 'cause I've gained roughly a stone in the last 18 weeks. I'm not being anal about it but I just don't wanna be huge!

A stone seems not too bad for 18 weeks Clare. I've gained 15lbs so far (25 weeks) I use this calculator:
    http://www.thebabycorner.com/tools/pregnancy/calculators/weightcalculator.php
    to keep track.

It says I should be between 135lbs and 142lbs and I'm 139 at the moment so pretty much in the middle of the range.

I thought that the midwife might have weighed me by now, but she hasn't so I'm just keeping an eye on it myself. I don't undertand why they don't weigh you at regular intervals - there's not much point in telling someone towards the end of their pregnancy that they've put on too much weight! What can you realistically do about it at that stage!?

A home birth sounds like a nice idea IHateDida, but I don't think I could do it with my first. I'm not sure how I'll handle it so I'd rather be in hospital in case I want an epidural or whatever. But I'd consider it if I have another! I don't think my OH likes the idea of it either - I think he'd rather we were in hospital. Our hospital maternity wing was rebuilt in 2009 so it looks great - the delivery suites look really nice and they have a couple with pools so fingers crossed one will be available for me. My friend had both her babies there and said that the mindwives are great and really supportive and encouraging so I'm hoping I will have an ok experience.

I like that site - i am bang on target with a gain of 2lbs at 12 weeks but i was obese to start with they only recommend a total gain of 11 - 20lbs

If i carry on with the appetite i have now i have nothing to worry about!

Currently doing Slimming World so i should be able to stay within the limits easily!

That's great! I think we have to take resposibility for our bodies if we want to be healthy mummies :) Well done you for keeping up with the SW - I've seen a fair few friends use pregnancy as an excuse to just eat whatever they want and as we all know that shouldn't really be the case. I fully believe you should treat yourself if there is something you really fancy, but everything in moderation eh!?

The calculator is handy because it's useful to know what weight range to aim for. I would have had no idea how much I should have put on by this point and probably would have thought that over a stone was way too much, but apparently not :)

I just got an email from my wedding photographer to ask if an online blog can feature my wedding - how exciting?! :D

I was reading the birth stories thread last night and you have no idea how much I want to have to be enduced or an arranged section. The idea of going into labour in the house and having to go to the hospital, be sent home, go back in etc scares the hell outta me.
