I don't see how mould spores can be harmless to any baby whether it has grown on their own dribble or not. I would immediately bin any mouldy mattress.

OMG Penguin! Good luck :j - I have my fingers crossed that snow will clear in time for you! I look forward to hearing the imminent good news!
I have felt like a pin cushion this week - anti-D jab, blood tests and whooping cough jab! I have bought one of those long body pillows from Argos (half price) and it has been a godsend to help with my pelvic pain! Also just bought some bits and pieces from Jojo Maman Bebe as they have a sale on.
Anyone else got swollen ankles yet? My left ankle is starting to look like a tree trunk (!) and I am worried about what on earth I am going to wear on my feet for a wedding next week!
Hope everyone else is keeping well - we don't have much snow here thankfully - just a dusting!0 -

I simply don't think they are worthy of my time lol.. The issue I have is if you were 1.5 hours late they would refuse to see you yet they think it is ok to keep you sat there for that amount of time with no explanation or apology or anything.. I am so laid back it is often questioned whether I am breathing or not but my time is too precious to waste.
I have decided on my new car seat.. and once I have finished decorating I will sort baby clothes and see what we need.. just sleepsuits and bodysuits I think.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Hi (mostly i'm guessing) ladies,
I'm after a bit of advice and having lurked around here while trying to conceive for a while, i'm hoping to get some of the great responses i've seen here before.
My wife is in hospital. She is 28+5. She has been in antenatal for the last 3 weeks and has been down to the labour ward hdu once for a couple of days in that time. She has choleostasis (which isnt causing a problem at the moment) but has placenta previa fully covering the os so is prone to bleeds as the baby and uterus grow (or anything general disruption in that area). Our old due date was 11 June, our new elective c-section date is now 21 May and have fingers crossed we make it that far.
Anyway, thats the background. The advice i am after is, as my wife wont be leaving hospital until the baby is born:
1) what do you suggest i do to keep her sane and calm?
2) what do you suggest she should do to kill time / keep her interested etc for the next (hopefully) 8 weeks?
Please bear in mind, i work full time and visit from 7-9 straight after work every night and for about 7 hours a day on the weekend. + Baby seems fine at the moment.
Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place. I guess the question goes out to (at east) 2nd timers so might not be the right thread.
Thanks in advance0 -
Sorry to hear about your wife's problems with placenta previa, wasps, but good to know that baby's doing fine.
Are there other people who could visit occasionally? Perhaps pop in for a short time in the day? Hospital is very dull and visitors really break up the monotony. As you can't visit during the day (understandably) it might be nice for her to still see a friendly face now and then. Is she essentially on bedrest or can she leave the hospital at all? I know they'll have her up and about as much as possible to reduce the chances of DVT/lung problems but can she actually leave the ward? If so, encourage her to do this as much as possible.
What hobbies does she have? Now's the time to master a skill that she's never had the time to do before. It might be old-fashioned but sewing/knitting/crocheting/patchwork etc. is really absorbing and good fun plus she could make something for the baby. Books are a godsend, obviously.
Another tip from my OH (who's unfortunately had to spend a fair bit of time in hospital recently)... if you can afford it buy some noise cancelling headphones. Or better still, your own room!
Good luck. All will be well."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
I had my laptop, a tonne of dvds and an internet dongle last time when I was in for a while with a preemie - saved my sanity somewhat and cost less than those bedside tvs where the good channels didn't work anyway. I even did a lot of baby shopping retail therapy online as well.
And regular food mercy runs as the hospital food ws so awful the state of it made me sob on occasions!
Billi levels dropped under the lights and have stayed down when she came off so no rebound jaundice so we've just been cleared by the doctor to go home today whenever the endless paperwork is done. This side room is lovely (seem to be loads of them in this hospital and I got moved to do the phototherapy lights) but it's freezing as the windows are crud!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Thanks for the quick responses. :T She does have some other people who visit throughout the week and during the day which helps a lot.
She isnt bed-bound but the risk of another big bleed is so high she dosent go off the ward unless accompanied.
I'll look into getting some decent headphones. The £85 a night side room for the next 8 weeks (approx £4500) isnt an option for financial reasons!
Neither is retail therapy!
I'll talk to her about anything she may have always wanted to learn and go and drag some books out of the library for her on sewing etc if she fancies it.
Congratulations on getting to go home today dizzi.
Off to the hospital now... thanks again.0
