Hi everyone, I am moving up from the last thread. This is my first baby and am 24+1. Hi to a few names I know already, ihatedida we are also doing a house up ready to move into, sounds like we are at similar stages too, hoping they will start on the kitchen and bathroom this week! we currently live in a tiny 1 bed flat above our business-a cafe-and it is cramped enough just us and the dog so desperately needed somewhere bigger, our new house is not huge but got a mega bargain at auction and it'll be so nice to have everything all new :)

I know it's discussed quite often but I do need some advice on carseats and bases. I am having the Babystyle Oyster pram which you cna use with maxi cosi cabrio/citi/pebble. Now i had blindly inttended just getting the pebble and a familyfix base, but now I've seen it comes to about 270 i am thinking twice! What's everyone else having?
I shall add myself to the list :)

    Hi dippydooda!

We are also getting the Oyster. Have decided to get the Britax car seat which goes straight onto the Oyster without any need for adapters. We're not getting a base though, I think it would make life easier but a few people have said that belting the car seats in is not that much hassle, and the bases are quite expensive so have decided to go without.

One thing about the Britax not needing adapters though - it does mean it sits very low down when on the buggy chassis. I'm not too bothered because a) I'm short! and b) I'm not planning to use the car seat on the frame for long periods.

On a separate note - does anybody use either a Moby wrap or a close/caboo sling? Or any other sling recommendations?

Caved in yesterday and bought first baby clothes, some very cute sleep suits and vests with giraffes and elephants on them! I fear the floodgates might be open now so must be restrained in the shops!

Thanks MrsJ, I can't believe you've only just bought some clothes, me and my mam have bought loads already-got well enough now I'd say, but it is dangerous, I can't really stop-everything's so cute! Will look more into the craseat options!

mrsj28 - I have bought a Baby Bjorn Originals baby carrier - after reading reviews of both carriers and slings - I was thinking of a sling but I can't even manage to tie a sarong properly on holiday!!! :D

Hi Dippy - good to see you here! Our new home was owned by an elderly lady who hadn't updated anything since it was built in the early 80's - Adam Ant eat your heart out!

I have bought the Maxi cosi family fix from Halfords (£126) and a Cabriofix car seat (I couldn't work out what the difference was apart from price with the Pebble) - this was £85 after I signed up the OH to Amazon Family (to get a tenner off!).

I was thinking of resale value for the family fix - they go for loads on Ebay (£80+) and the car seat reviews were good for the Cabriofix. It was the horrendous Youtube video I saw that drove me to get an Isofix base - not essential - but I just couldn't face clipping a bit of seat belt here and a bit more there etc......! (I have a 3 door car also!:o)

We're going maxicosi with family fix. It does seem expensive, I think the family fix will live in DH car it will be on the back seat and when we'll do longer journeys at faster speed (motorways). For my car I'll probably seat belt in the maxicosi on the front seat (no isofix on front, but will obviously disable airbag) as it will only be me and LO then and means I can keep an eye on them.
As for pram / pushchair really tempted my micralite toro, doesn't seem to be very popular, but appeals to us, off to try it again next weekend as Mum and Dad visiting and taking us shopping!
MrsJ we've got ourselves a moby wrap. Just really tempted by settling in the LO and still pootling about, we'll have to see if they like it.... there is an excellent youtube link on how to tie it.

Yeah it's really long, but seems to tie quite easily, we've had a few practices.

Hello everyone, almost 10 days overdue here and still no signs of baby showing its face!

Re slings/wraps, I have got a Sa-Be stretchy wrap which is the same type as a Moby. Victoria sling lady and Snugiwraps also do very good stretchies at a very reasonable prices, half the price of a Moby but does exactly the same job.

Car seat wise we have got the cabriofix with easybase (belted one). The family fix bases are very good as you can put a group 1 car seat on them so they last a while. The maxi cosi seats aren't too bad just belted without a base, guess it depends how much time baby is going to spend travelling in a car which may influence your decision?

We had a Close carrier for DS, which I loved. It'll be coming out again for the new addition. Only downside is it doesn't support your back and as DS was quite a big baby I was finding it hard work to carry him around in it by about 3 or 4 months. We bought a Baby Bjorn after that, but I've since read they aren't so good for the baby, so wondering about ebaying that one and getting an Ergo Baby carrier instead for when this baby gets a bit bigger. Has anyone used one of those?

Our car seat will be belted in as it's the one we had for DS and isofix wasn't an option on it then. I never found it a problem and am not prepared to fork out best part of £400 for the new version with base when we have a perfectly good seat already. Plus we can't use an isofix base in my car anyway as there are storage compartments in front of the back seats so no solid base for the support leg to rest on. Which is a bit rubbish, when you consider it's supposed to be a family car (Ford C-Max)

I had an ergo, but it was many years ago so they might have changed but I hated it.. the weight was centred on my hips which made it really painful for me and my daughters slipped out of it sideways because fastened as tight as it would I couldn't get it to fit close enough to be secure.

The Mei Tai's are the popular ones at the moment I believe. My hips are far too bad to use any sling at all now :(

I have no idea how old the car seat is. .but.. it is not recommended you use a seat older than 5 years regardless of how much wear it has had. The safety requirements change and the natural fibres degrade and metal parts erode which may render them dangerous and not safe in the event of an accident.

I have a Moby - they tend to be around to buy second-hand for about £25 as well - because of them being stretchy they're great for newborns but have a shorter lifespan of being useful as baby gets heavier, so come up second-hand fairly fast. One cautionary note is that because they're quite thick jersey fabric - I've found them very hot in what laughingly passed for summer last year. I also have a connecta which I used a lot after the moby with my little girl - only really stopped as I suck at back carries (harder to get her into them when she was late sitting and things), she's a hair puller (see back carries) and my SPD got flipping awful so I was leaning on the buggy slightly as I couldn't do baby+crutches.

Had a night at the hospital - reduced movement all day yesterday so went in for monitoring - all seems well, my heart rejoiced when I got a very nearly qualified student MW as she was really thorough and sympathetic to it all... was about 4.30am by the time we got back home though! Looks like baby's back to back though - AGAIN! Fair few grumbly tightenings on the trace but probably just from being prodded about a bit - and possibly a UTI mouldering away as well.

Today/tomorrow get me over the point I delivered last time so I'm probably being excessively paranoid.
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!
