Has anyone been on holiday past 24 weeks? I've decided to get extra travel insurance and found that Debenhams offer travel insurance that cover pregnancy-related health issues, and then my bank account cover will cover any cancellations of flights etc. HUGE RELIEF!

    Welcome misstamsilakanwal

So sorry to hear about the loss of your son, and the complications with this pregnancy. My EDD is 17-06-13 so we are just one day apart!

I've got two random questions for all you lovely ladies

    1. Glucose tolerance test - I've been booked in for this due to PCOS. Has anybody has this done and is there anything useful I should know? I'm having it done at 30 weeks (the earliest appointment they could fit me in for!)

    2. Cots... for anybody who has had a baby.. is it worth getting a dropside cot? I'm quite short and like the idea of having a dropside for when the baby's bigger and heavier, but I've read that they were banned in the US for safety reasons, and was just wondering if anybody knows anything about them?!

Had 25 week midwife appointment today, all nice and normal and heard the baby's heartbeat again which was lovely.

GTT.. is their latest fad.. they want to subject everyone to it regardless of whether they show symptoms or not... if you don't want it, refuse it is within your rights.

cots.. personally I wouldn't have a fixed side cot. I am too little to lift a child over the side without it being lowered. Most accidents that happen are not down to shoddy goods but down to the parents being stupid and not using them properly or paying attention. I'd be more bothered about having to drop a sleeping child from a height to get them in the cot than being too dim to remember to slide the side back up once they were in.. which I have never done in 22 years of being a parent.

Thanks PP - I don't mind having the GTT done so will go ahead with it.

That was my thinking about dropside cots, I'd rather be able to get the child in and out safely and not damage my back/the baby in the process!

GTT - they're annoying but relatively OK - go in, get initial bloods done, down the allocated amount of Lucozade (worst bit of the whole thing) and then sit there for a couple of hours before getting more bloods done. Last pregnancy I got hit at 18 and 28 weeks because of my BMI, this pregnancy I just got hit at 28 weeks - take a decent book (and a cushion since the waiting room chairs hurt your butt after hour number 1)!

Week 34 today - further than I got last time, so I feel a bit like a weight's been lifted off my shoulders in terms of knowing that whatever happens it should be easier going than last time... may also have a buyer for my old pushchair (my beloved iCandy... sniffle) albeit at a lower price than I wanted but I'd like it sold and out of the way before I go into labour this time.

Am somewhat cheesed off though - my mum KNEW from week 8 that I was relying on her to be available to watch our daughter when I went into hospital - I now find out she's booked a trade mission to Bulgaria when I'd be about 38 weeks gone! Not happy! Do NOT want to have to have MIL down to stay then after her disgusting comments about me causing the prematurity issue last time and her general awful behaviour in the past bodily shoving me out of the way so she could get at the baby (she's done this several times).

thanks for that dizziblonde - i wasnt told there was a 2 hour wait as well! Will be taking my DH in with me as I have my whooping cough injection at the same time - gawd, 3 lots of needles in the space of 2 hours :s

Dizzi is your MIL the only other choice to watch your daughter? Sounds like she'd cause more trouble than she'd save!

I was planning on my sister being in with me as my other birth partner but she will be 7 months herself then so not sure what will happen with that..nervous about DH being the only one there
We got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic. ;)

If I deliver before/after my mum vanishes off to Bulgaria - my mum will do it. MIL I really really do not want to do it since last birth she showed up at the hospital to get a set of keys off hubby - and proceeded to make herself comfortable sat in the delivery room mid-pushing! No doubt she'll announce in a few weeks that she's booked a hotel for the fortnight around my due date without me being asked anyway - I've said she's not welcome until we've got life on an even keel because of how she behaved last time... she can come earlier if and when I get the apology for all the accusations I caused the prematurity thing.

Other plans are ringing my brother to come down - he's pretty clueless though, and usually incredibly busy with the endless stream of women in his life... or hubby's going to have to stay at home and I'll go it alone. I don't think I'll go anywhere near full-term though - gut instinct is that if I make it to late 35 weeks I'll be lucky.

How did I get to 18th on the list - I'm sure I was about 40th...

I had the GTT at 28 weeks - didn't get Lucozade at my hospital, I'm not sure what the drink was but it was horrible. Waiting around for 2 hours for the second bloods to be done was pretty boring, so take a book or something and don't make same mistake as me and sit by the hospital cafe feeling jealous of people eating and drinking! :rotfl:
