I forgot to add, I've used about 7 pads a day the first three to five days, then 5 a day for another five days. Then 3 a day or so this last week. Still in need of them, although by.now I could use normal period pads, I just have the maternity pads there and I thought I might as well use them. I'd say about 5 or 6 packets x 10 pads should be ok before you either swap to normal pads or pantyliners. Tesco's and Boots' pads are great. I can't recommend enough the distilled witch hazel to put on top (few drops all over), two bottles of the stuff, Boots' one is really good and refreshing.

Welcome nomorespending. Sorry but I have changed the tone of the thread atm. Technically I should move to the newborn one but am waiting until my little one is home.

Post up your due date and team colour (blue, pink or yellow) and someone will pop you on the list.

Right.. Lozzy. I haven't had any pains other than my bum aches a bit and my stitches. I had a 3rd degree tear.. had my inner lips sewn back on basically :(

Vasaline helps. Also remembering to take paracetamols. I forgot to take any yesterday. Didn't hurt in general but the pain when I pee'd was excruciating!

I definitely think its good to know about these things & everyones different experiences :) Everyone will have different tips & tricks that are bound to help someone & if they help just one person then it was worth the post :) The things I've bought have definitely been influenced by what I've read on here. I've bought boots maternity pads as a lot of people seem the think these are the best, I've bought lansinoh nipple cream & will put it in my hospital bag, I've bought lansinoh breast pads when they've been on offer as they seem to be popular too & I've bought the boots distilled witch hazel today which is something I'd never even thought of buying! And I'm finding I'm learning a lot from everyone on here such as I thought that the bleeding after birth would be more like a really heavy period as opposed to quite watery, as well as the tips such as holding a damp pad over stitches when you poo or pouring water over when you wee will no doubt come in handy after the little one has arrived!!!

I can't believe I'm at number 15 on the list, it's bizarre how fast I've moved up! I'm really excited about the whole thing though as bizarre as it may sound, I know its going to hurt but I'm just going to have to get on with it! Ideally I'd like to labour in water & possibly give birth in water but my hospital only has one pool so it's pot luck really as to whether someone is using it but I can keep my fingers crossed :) And I'm a big fan of gas & air after using it earlier this year when my knee locked so I'm hoping that'll be a big help too! I'm also planning to have the injection to help with delivering the placenta, I'm not sure how it'll fit with the waterbirth but I'm sure the placenta is delivered outside the pool anyway so I'd imagine its not a problem :)

I've picked a few bits for Bean up in the next sale this year & I've ordered some bits from the sale online but I'm not convinced they'll arrive seen as the wait is about 5wks, I'm just waiting for the cancellation emails from them. I can keep my fingers crossed but I'll certainly not hold my breath :)

I think we have everything we need now (except the cot) :) Just need to re-pack my proper hospital bag. We had it packed for a trip down south at 30wks with the bare essentials but now we have it all we can pack it properly & with everything, right down to lipbalm! That and we need to get the nursery sorted. We've been trying to get rid of some furniture & we've finally sold the last piece on ebay which is being collected tomorrow so thats a big relief because we can work on getting everything sorted in there once thats collected. The cot is the only important thing we're waiting on although the shop are chasing that up this week because it should have been here just before xmas at the latest but it's a pretty essential piece of furniture because it acts as the moses basket too! If Bean beats the cot here then we'll just have to use the pram carrycot as the bed until the cot does arrive so it's not like we're completely screwed :)

My friend who was due on NY day actually gave birth a week early & got a xmas day baby instead! I'm a little jealous though as she keeps posting pictures of her little one & it makes me want to meet Bean NOW! We were surprised by another friend who was due a couple of days before xmas who went over due. They'd been told at all their scans they were having a girl & they actually had a little boy!

Hope everyone else is doing well :) I have my fingers crossed for you Rups that your little one decides to make an appearance soon, I dread going over as I'm so excited although the prospect of going shopping, getting asked when I'm due & seeing people recoil in horror when I tell them a week ago does make me smile a bit :)

Right, time for me to go & put another load of Bean's clothes in the washer then get some tea. I think we're having an indian takeaway as OH has been at work all day (7-6 today!) & is knackered, I've had the first signs of nesting so am knackered after overdoing things a bit so we're going to treat ourselves to a takeaway :)

It varies so much - I think I went through 3 packs of the Tesco pads in all as I didn't bleed that much - but I found it worth keeping some back for the first period as that was incredibly heavy too and normal towels were just drowning in it.

With the peeing stinging with stitches - I found leaning forward so it didn't dribble over the affected area as much helped, or people have found a jug of water or a sports bottle type pop bottle works (hence packing that type of bottled drink in their birth bags) - I also had the worst level of 3rd degree tear/cut as she'd decided to spin around and come out back-to-back aided with forceps and generally cause as much havoc as she could (wouldn't believe she was less than 5lb for the chaos she caused to my nether bits). To be honest - the actual tear was less of an issue than the total head-mess of the IDEA of having a tear down there if that makes sense.

    Welcome, nomorespending!
Do not put much pressure on yourself with regard to buying baby stuff. DH is very MSE, he only buys if he's got the money whilst I stock up credit cards and loans :( Our household has no other debts other than the mortgage, but I personally have over £5k and only maternity allowance for another 6months! Anyway, we decided not to spend crazy money because my debts are not going down but up, since I'm studying a postgraduate course and I'm paying upfront fees every year. We asked for money as presents from family and recycled furniture. Mil bought the moses and bath, fil sent money, ad my parents did, which will be used in the cotbed when we find a bargain after the sales. We found the travel system in the sale at Boots for £60 after asking the lady about the display models. We recycled an old chest of drawers ad her own, we got given a second hand folding changing table (although we've been using the changing mat on the floor) and also lots of second hand clothes. We bought a travel cot this week (still with the money we were given) because we were tired of moving the moses with us every night and morning, plus it has many other uses. We are not bothering with a nursery, she will have to sleep with us until she's six months, and she won't mind once we buy the travel cot if the furniture matches or if she's sharing the bedroom with our coats wardrobe. I rather wait and but a good bedroom when she moves out of the cotbed or when / if we have another child, so we buy directly bunkbeds. If I could afford it, I would love to he able to spend on it and get a pretty set. I cannot afford it, so I'll wait to spend that money until when she can appreciate a room. I'm glad we didn't buy clothes as well, she didn't fit in the tiny ones and the 0-3 ones are slightly big. Also, I now know I prefer sleepsuits with mittens, so I'll be buying in thesales what I really use. She's 17 days today and all she wants is feeding and love, she's got that and she does not seem to care if her sleepsuit is from mothercare basics or Verbaudet design. :)

welcome nomorespending. Hope you find or chats useful. You can ignore mine as half the time i am freaking out on here. lol.:)

just gotback from cleaning the bath tub and mopping the floor and i am exhausted. sat down now and i want to order that curry. thing is dh is on a diet so he doesnt get as hungry as me but i want foodnow so will wait for him to get the stains out of the carpets (uh hun one of them is my blusher - oops) and then order. i need to get the baby out. am so uncomfy. being seeing discharge today so am hoping its nearer and nearer and some pressure down there.

nomorespending dont worry about buying too much as stated here. we bought as we went along and even that i got the basic stuff needed for the hospital bag for the little one and also some extra vests and baby suits as those will be needed. as time went by, we got a moses basket as a present and my mum kindly bought us some fitted sheets from matalan which were 2 for 5pounds and i got a similar pair from amazon so these are washed and ready. as we go along, once bubba is here we have tescos near so will be popping there to get cheap stuff as they grow out of things- as i have been told.. now we are just waiting for someone to fill those clothes.. come on baby..:0)

  • It's a good job I'm not reading this thread whilst I'm eating my tea :D it's really good to know this sort if stuff, I have 4 packs of boots pads, may have to think about getting some more.

On the witch hazel subject I bought a bottle of distilled from sainsburys for £1.59 which is half the price of the boots one. I'm hoping its going to do the same job, the only ingredient is distilled witch hazel so hoping that will be ok to put on the pads.

Welcome nomorespending, will add you to the list I posted this morning if that's alright.

C'mon baby Rups, not that I want you to go, will be so quiet once you go :(

Glad you are well Bamama, I am impressed with your milk production, one of my worries is that I have none at all!

I wonder if I can request to have the injection for the placenta or whether you get it if you are struggling? My DH thought it stayed inside and came out like a period. I googled him a picture of it and he went pale!

Hi girls, this talk about bleeding etc, I just wanted to give my tip - if you don't feel right, fight the midwives and doctors about it! I did feint after birth because of the blood loss and had a transfusion at hospital the following day. But I felt awful for 3 weeks, I had people telling me to get my act together and go for some fresh air etc...the midwives took note of all my symptoms but nothing clicked for them. 3 weeks on I had a Post partum haemorrhage which was scary as hell. Turned out the reason I felt so ill was because I was fighting infection the whole time! There was info about PPH's in the bumph I was given but I didn't find time to read it. I read it after the event and I had 3 out of 4 of the symptoms. So just familiarise yourself with stuff like that and go with your gut if you think something doesn't feel right, wish I had.

The worst thing about the number twos for me was the fact they were black from the iron tablets! Yuk.

Also sneezing, coughing and laughing when you have stitches isn't fun! :) But it's not too bad ;)

I didn't have a birth plan and I got asked what I wanted during labour at the hospital. They generally prefer you to have the injection. At least my hospital do.
