  • I always tend to wake up with a sore bump as well, no idea why, I know baby is at its most active at night. Also the bit where my bump is most sore is the side where a few stretch marks have developed. Looks my my body has one side that copes better than the other.

Was funny last time - I had everything "stuff-wise" sorted by about 26 weeks - nursery painted, furniture assembled, clothes washed (I'd been washing as I bought stuff)... bags packed at about the 30 week mark, and only the birth plan left to write (was planning on doing it at about 35 weeks)... then suddenly had the burning urge (like a "must do this now - not sit down till they're on charge" level urge) to get all the cameras and camcorders fully charged and into the bags - did that, packed them, and then the same day they'd come off charge and got packed - went into labour early.

Have washed all the prem/tiny baby clothes now - they're boxed somewhere obvious in case they're needed, all the newborn stuff bar socks, hats and scratch mitts are washed and sorted into drawers, and the 0-3 stuff can wait a while still. Still need to wash sleeping bags as well and I'll wash blankets just to refresh them up a bit - even though they probably don't need it as they've been used previously for number 1 child. I just keep chucking a bit in every time I haven't quite got a full washing load ready to go in.

  • I can't wait to start washing my baby clothes, too cute! I love getting them out and putting them on my bump, hubby thinks I'm very strange.

Are you at risk at having another preemie Dizzi? Hope I'm not being too nosey by asking, I'm curious as I have mum and sister history of pre term delivery both due to pre eclampsia, mum delivered at 38 and sister at 34 weeks. I have mentioned this to midwife and they don't seem concerned but it does play on the back of my mind a bit that it could happen to me. Doesn't help when my sister said to me the other day 'oh just think in 2 weeks time that's when I delivered', yeah thanks sis!

I've got a few factors that increase the risk, although they never found out a reason for the last one coming early (the only thing I can think of is I had an abcessed tooth they wouldn't treat while pregnant and infections can kick things off apparently) - the previous prem puts my risk up, two pregnancies close together puts my risk up as well, the utter lack of ante-natal care doesn't help matters either... I'm basically coping by planning on it happening again, and if it doesn't and I'm sat here at 41 weeks twiddling my thumbs - I'll be climbing the walls but secretly grateful for it... if I'm honest - my target is to make it to 35 weeks as that was the tipping point where she clicked onto feeding and got to come home.

I think secretly I had some intuition it would happen - see the camera packing stuff, had gone into total overdrive to be organised in advance as a means of controlling fears over miscarriage and what-not which worked in my favour since other mums were having to run around doing car seat shopping at short notice and similar whereas I only had to move the moses basket into the right room!

    Hi,
Your MW should really have taken note that your Mum and Sister both delivered early due to pre-eclampsia. My Mum had it and delivered my little brother at 32 weeks, I developed it in my pregnancy and delivered at 27 weeks and was told it tends to run it families (hope I'm not scaring you!) When my sister has a baby I hope they will take a note of our family history and put extra checks in just to make sure.

I had everything I needed at around 35 weeks, packed some of the stuff that same week but I didn't finish my bag until I was 49+4, the same day I had the sweep and just about 2h before the first contractions began!! I didn't have proper nesting experience, although the previous days I felt I had to organize my emails, finish all my paperwork and other similar stuff, so maybe it was a "virtual nesting" lol

I had a playlist for hospital with my favourite songs, or songs that "speak to me" iykwim, I rather listen to that than to a chill out CD that tells me nothing, but... I forgot to take the speaker and at the time of delivery I didn't want to know anything about music or playlists, my DH kept asking me if I wanted it and I just didn't feel like it. But I didn't have the birth I wanted either, maybe if I had the water birth and I could have relaxed a bit, I would have wanted music too.

The Graco travel cot/crib/basinette is great. If you plan to do trips to other people's houses and stay the whole day or overnight, it folds easily, has a carrier bag, minimal assembly required and it's good quality. You just open it umbrella style and push things into place, the only bit you assemble and add is the hood. The crib just needs to be clicked in. The mattress is like a moses mattress. I'm very happy with the purchase, it was £50 at Amazon with Amazon Prime delivery next day. For a travel cot, it's very good. We are using it on the living room because we were tired of having to move the moses at night and in the morning. We thought of buying a second moses but the price difference once we added the stand was minimal and the travel crib /cot will last for much longer.

Also loving the whatsapp app for smartphone, I can send easily pics to all my family and chat to them through the internet, which saves me a lot of money on multimedia messages. Very easy and straightforward to use. Just like a messenger /chat. I use the Wi-Fi at home or the free ones when I'm out, so I don't spend an extra penny. All my family is abroad, so it's a huge saving. Also, my cousins created a "group" and now we can chat all together at any point. If you have family/friends abroad and/or you do not have an unlimited text plan, this is great.

For those doing the maternity bag : do not buy Mothercare 's maternity pads. If you end up with stitches, these pads are very uncomfortable because they stick a bit to the stitches because of the thin tissue layer on top of the cotton-like absorbent area, which is too loose. Tesco's are very good, Boots as well. Buy the Boots Distilled witch hazel bottle, make sure it's distilled and if you buy it somewhere else, make sure it has no alcohol, I bought one with it by mistake. Put some of it on the pad, it refreshes the area and relieves some soreness. I used to put the neck /open bottle against the pad and turned it upside down to get a few drops, then do the same along the whole pad, so it didn't soak but it had a couple of drops all along the pad. It lasted me 2weeks.and I wish I had bought a second bottle.

Even if you plan to breastfeed, have a couple of aptamil 1 first milk cartons and a bottle. If you've registered on the avent website, they'll send you one around your due date.

  • Marta, thanks for your tips... I've missed your posts! Hope you're doing well with your little one.
After your last post I started researching the belly belt... But I have no idea what sites to trust and which are just a selling gimmick. Where did you get your information... And what site did you buy from in the end? They def seem a good idea.
I also wanted to ask which hypnobirthing book you had? I've left it too late to do it properly, but I remember in one of your posts you explained about the fear of pain is half of the cause of pain... Just thought in the last few weeks I could have a read...

Sorry I've bombarded you with questions! X
  • Has rups been on today? Hoping the quietness means good news for her and her little one has decided to make an appearance!!!

    Hi Elisabeth,

The book was Hypnobirth : Morgan's method, or something very similar. It's got.a woman meditating on the front. It does not include a CD, see.if you can find another edition with the CD. I want to do it properly next time (yay, thinking already of a next time, lol), otherwise I'd send it your way. I found it very useful but I regret not practising it enough.

I bought the wrap from Macom London, a shop specialized in compression garments for after the birth, surgery etc. I ordered the one for hernia, post birth and abdominal support. Around £45, it's like 3 panels with Velcro. There are other options see if you would rather.have another one. It's a shop in London, they do next day deliveries but they are close until next Wednesday... I ordered too late and I've not received it yet because they had not processed the order! :( if you want to wait, I should receive it next week or the week after that. I can let you know how good it is. :)
