Perhaps walked home on your own, might have been safer.

Get a taxi would have been the safer option.

I would never walk home on my own.

I think you could be right there.

It will be that dated, disgusting view I was accused of holding last night that does it. It is all down to age;)

Plenty of people have been sexually assaulted by taxi drivers. Perhaps never leave the house?

I've walked home on my own loads of times

I refuse to live my life being scared of others, I refuse to feel like I cannot go about my own business fearing what may happen.

And I dress how I like too!

Not sure wether that makes me stupid :)

So, are you blaming me then?

    :(

No, I was pointing out that what seems safe and what seems dangerous - ie getting a lift home seems safe, walking home alone seems dangerous - isn't always necessarily the case.

I know you're joking but I honestly can't help but feel we become more pragmatic with age and the idealism we perhaps felt in a stronger way when we were younger, diminishes somewhat.

I also personally can't be doing with 'the usual' or 'the norm' as a sole basis for basing decisions and beliefs on.

Imo, it's wise to consider all possible eventualities in life, regardless of how low the risk may be.

But then, for generations my family does appear to always have fitted the 'exception' rather than 'rule' category so I suppose it's unsurprising I feel as I do.

    That is great for you.

I do not have to walk home on my own so I choose not to.

I have never been assaulted by a taxi driver so I will continue to use them. Not sure many people have tbh.

For me it is all about risk reduction.

But it was not the lift home that was dangerous, it was letting him stay the night.

Yes, I was very idealistic when I was younger.

Having children changed me as well.

Probably not. You sound as if you will be broadcasting a "Don't mess with me!" attitude through your body language which would be enough to make most potential perpetrators look for an easier target.

We give out strong non-verbal messages all the time. I've talked to some police officers who have worked with offenders. When the offenders were shown CCTV sequences, they were able to pick out the men and women they would have considered potential victims and those they would avoid. The police passed this knowledge on during their self-defence courses for the public.
