Does anyone know if you can pay of a bank loan with the BC offer for exsisiting customers(2.9%) or is it just balance transfers from credit cards. Cheers. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I've just been rejected as already having a Visa [see here ]. This was expected, but has anyone successfully applied for this new Barclaycard whilst still holding an 'old' one that Barclaycard were fully aware of?
The funny thing is, Barclaycard are NOT that categoric about being ineligible for the new offering [ie you can already get a 'standard' alternate card that offers 6.9% for LOB, instead] I suspect this is down to whom you ask - the 'second card' people will work in one area, and have no dealings with the 'new customers', whereas the 'new customer' people will work to a different script - hence the contradictory responses.
I have emailed the 'Decisioning & Support Manager' to clarify that my app. was really for a Mastercard and that the Barclaycard Application does not ask you to specify a card type - other than sticking an image of a 'Visa' up. We shall see what happens next.
Finally, I was just wondering if having a second card can (or does) preclude you from the 'existng customer' offer in that case? In other words, could I apply for a Mastercard? [in principle, yes] Could that Mastercard in due course become an 'existing' card? [obviously, yes] If I therefore had a Mastercard with a cleared balance, could I select that card to benefit from the 2.9% LOB offer - instead of the one I have with 0%/£1 LOB?
So has anyone played this game with Barclaycard [or did I just not read it ?] - of putting 2.9% LOB onto a second [eg Mastercard] held with them, whilst keeping their old offer intact on the first card? [TIA].....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0 -
I am one of 3 people I know who applied for the new offer when it was launched on the 2nd June....none of us has received either our cards or rejection letters, has anyone actually received theirs? (I am referring to the 0% 'til August 2005 offer).
At this rate of processing we'll only have 12 months max....or perhaps that's part of Barclays 'cunning plan'?! ???
Yes - I also applied on the 2nd and received my card this morning. I got my PIN notification 3 days ago. Phoned them to BT the full £5K to a SBT card from where it'll be SBT'd into my flex mortgage for the next 13 months ;DMortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000
Mortgage July 2007 - £0
Original Mortgage Termination Date - Nov 2018
Mortgage Interest saved - £63790.60
ISA Profit since Jan 1st 2015 - 98.2% (updated 1 Dec 2020)0 -
Hi
The above article only makes reference to balance transfers, paying off other credit cards. I am totally new to credit cards as I have never possessed one in my life, but I am interested in taking advantage of a BT to pay off my existing overdraft. Is this possible with Barclaycards offer above?
Thanks

From what I can gather, new Barclaycard customers are not being offered that facility.
You would need to look at someone like Egg or MBNA. Have a look at the articles/threads on super balance transfer (SBT) cards.0 -
I had my pin through yesterday, so it looks like I'll be getting one. I applied on the 2nd with a form from a branch.
What sort of credit limit have people been getting? I only ask as my g/f recently got a mint card with a credit limit of something odd like £2800?0 -
Got my PIN today (applied 2/6), no card yet. Called and was told my credit limit will be £4K higher than HBOS offered me, £1K higher than I had with RBS Advanta.I have five stars! This doesn't mean that I know anything about any of the things I post. I could be a raving lunatic, or a brilliant genius, or just some guy on the internet. In fact, I could be all three at the same time.
If anything I say makes sense, then do it. If not, don't. Don't blame me or my stars if you do something stupid because I suggested it. I'm responsible for my own stupidity only. You are responsible for yours.
Why, I don't even have five stars anymore! Aren't you glad you aren't responsible for my stupidity?0 -
Got my pin today, although I had already enquired as to the status of my application on Friday. Card not arrived yet, but they did say my credit limit was £1300. I applied for the Mastercard as I already have the Visa with 2.9% life of balance offer on it, and a credit limit of £4500. When the new card arrives I intend asking if I can move some of the Visa credit limit to the Mastercard one.
If I can't I will balance transfer as much as I can, and use it for purchases to use up the credit limit. After 3 months or so I will ask them to increase the credit limit, and again use it for purchases, whilst paying off my higher rate cards first.0
