I was a Barclaycard customer with a £7k limit since 2001. I cleared the 4 grand balance I had this month (I had just transferred it from an expired EGG 0% deal for a few days).

I have decided to cancel my Gold Card with BC as I resent not getting the full deal as an existing customer. I did that on Friday 11th and applied for the new deal Platinum card on Friday evening online ( abit cheeky but it may test their systems). If they refuse, then fine - I'll go to MBNA (or other) - if not then I guess I win.

I am reducing the amount of cards my partner and I have so to be able to apply for the raft of better (equally good) offers that are bound to appear in the next few weeks as the competitors react to this cracking BC market share winner. Don't rush at once for this one - other companies WILL repsond.

Remember - Financial institutions are not your friends and do not deserve a huge amount of respect (unless you're rubbish at handling your (their!) money.

PS Thanks Martin, saved a few quid with your ideas

I have a loan with Cahoot, how can I transfer the debt to a credit card? I have applied for the new Barclaycard. Even a life of balance deal would be better than the 7.2% I am currently paying for the loan.

    Thanks

Hello, does anyone know if and what the differences are between the card types? There are about 6 to choose from when you apply online. The site starts you off at the platinum card, does this offer only apply to the platinum card or all the cards listed? Anyone know? I dont want to get it wrong and lose the chance of 13 months 0%

    Cheers NM :)
I am silently correcting your grandma.

I am trying to do the same thing here - having phoned up Barclaycard beforehand and asked 'could' I be eligible for the 0% on a Mastercard. Their reply was to the effect that Mastercard T&Cs were the same as Visa ones, so any benefits available to one were also available to the other type. Now I'm not aware of BC offering this special 0% card as a Mastercard - so I have 'niavely' applied for a new card - a Visa - and expect my existing Visa to flag up. I would have applied for a MC but there was no option given to do so.

I phoned BC today and was told that they are at least 10 days behind with their new customer applications due to heavy demand.(any excuse)
If I were an existing BC customer and was told they would`nt give me the latest deal,I`d tell them where to stick their card.
    Vote with your feet.
  • Couldn't agree more Alared. If they don't buy the idea - just don't spend on the card. There'll be plenty more credit cards in the sea.

Meanwhile, could everyone stop applying so they can process mine please!!

;D Only if you let them go ahead & process mine as they already have it ;)

Well, if it's any consolation the lady in the branch on Saturday told me that it would take around 3 weeks to hear a decision on my application. So at least that is a week less now?
Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out
