What's the score if as I do, you have a Barclaycard Visa but no mastercard. Bcard obviously do encourage people to hold both. Would the new customer offer be available if I took out a mastercard?
Guys,
Went into Barclays yesterday to open an account with my old man. Mentioned to the customer adviser that the new BC offer is really good but its a real shame that i can't take it up as i'm an exisiting BC holder.
She said that as i only hold the Visa, I could apply for the Mastercard and that i would be eligible for the new customer offer!
So i signed up but I will definitely double check and confirm when i get to make the actual Bal transfer.0 -
Received my application form the other day, hand delivered.
Part of the terms and conditions said:
We reserve the right to refuse a balance transfer or to limit the amount that can be transferred, in any case the minimum is £250 and the maximum will be £5,000, subject to the available credit limit on your account. Should we honour amounts in excess of your balance transfer limit they will be debited to your account and charged at 6.9% APR.
<end of qoute>
There is a section to enter balance transfers when applying for the credit card. You could enter values greater than £5k on this form.
I'm not saying Barclaycard will be disingenuous, but If someone has a £10k limit and applies for £9k they could end up paying 6.9% on the £4k.
Best not to try it on and only apply up to the maximum of £5k for balance transfers.
You are quite correct that Barclaycard will apply a dual rate (of 0% and 6.9%) on transfers over £5000 - there was some discussion on it at the time of the £1 '0% forever' loophole. Also note that on a dual rate transfer you will be paying down the 0% first, so that the interest from the 6.9% segment just accumulates. To avoid this trap, DO NOT ask for transfers greater than £5000.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0 -

This is the complete opposite of what I was told when I went into a Barclays branch. They told me that 'New Customer' meant exactly that, you have to be new to holding any kind of Barclaycard. The fact that I had a Barclaycard VISA meant that I was excluded from the 0% new customer offer, but that I was still welcome to apply for a Mastercard with them on normal terms.
How can they offer some existing customers the 0% offer and not others?0 -

Warren,
The 0% till 1 August 2005 offer is not available YET! You have applied for (and been accepted?) for the current offer - which is 0% till 1 february 2005.
OFFER IS AVAILABLE ONLINE FROM TOMMORROW (FRIDAY 11th JUNE) OR OVER PHONE FROM MONDAY (14tH JUNE)
If you can still do so, decline your offered card and apply for a new one. But check with Barclaycard first that they will approve an application for their new account before you dump it - as 0% for 7/8 months is better than nothing......under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0 -
Applied on Saturday 5th in a branch- was warned there is a significant backlog and it may take 4 weeks to receive my card. I also asked how long I had to transfer to the new card once I got it - 2 weeks was the reply - and this was confirmed on the phone through their customer services - but after checking the t&c's with the recent mailshot it is 60 days - that's a relief !0

Is the offer just on platinum if so what are minimum earnings?0
