You can cancel an agreement, usually. The best thing is to be straight up with Barclaycard and say you are aware of the improved card, and would like to apply for that one instead. See what they say, and let us know how you get one (0800 9177 277)

    Dear Martin,

I have been refused 0% balance transfers by Halifax and capital one with in the last 6 months, there is nothing adverse on my credit history and I know my score is pretty high, I have however just returned to work after 6 months on maternity leave and wonder if this could be the reason why I have been turnned down? I currently have a staff rate with Abbey of 9.9 and they have just released and new staff flat rate of 7.9. Am I better to apply for the new staff rate and transer the money to my bank account then pay off the existing credit card or would you advise I hold on for the Barclaycard 0%for 13 mths. I am just worried that if I have been refused 2 recently I will be refued this one also.

I apreciate your hard work and determination to make the world a more cost effective place!!!

    Thankyou Deirdre ??? :-[

    Helloo

If I apply for this, will i
    1) be able to use it for a £2500 loan to current account
    2) be able to pay the card off within 13months at 0%?

    My head hurts from thinking!!

What was the date for submitting applications please?

    Thanks!!!!

From what Martin was saying in the introductory article, you can't balance transfer on a new Barclaycard to your bank account - only another card. However if you ask them (since they are pefectly able to do this) they may oblige.

    [Did I get that right?]

  • Hi Martin,

Maybe a silly question, but does the balance transfer include those from store cards? I've three I'd like to get rid of!

    Thanks

Just got our lass to go into Barclays (Castleford) today to apply for the 0% for 13 months. There were no leaflets / flyers anywhere in the bank so she had to ask, it took the lady another 5 nminutes to find one!!

If at first you don't see then ask!, the offer is there!

Hi everyone ( apologies if youve already read this, as I posted it in the wrong place before )

My credit position is very simple, i.e, I don't have any. I have a HSBC Mastercard which has nothing on it, and is only used to pay my internet bill which I pay off every month. That's it. Just a mortgage and a student loan to pay back.

But I need some credit for the next few months due to a lack of cash flow, and I dont intend to put more than £600 to £700 on the card in full - a decent pay rise in August should mean I then have the money to pay off the card within a number of months, certainly it should be possible in under 12. I'm not the sort of person who is comfortable with debt!

This looks like a good offer to get some short term credit at 0% interest for about a year, but as I say I'm a novice in these matters, though Martin seems to be heavily in favour, so long as you pay the minimum amount without fail.

Can anybody offer me any opinions as to whether they think this might be a good deal for someone in my position? It certainly seems enticing on the surface!!

    Thanks in advance

    Ste

According to the original article you can:

"It’s also worth noting, that with the existing customer offer (though not the new cardholder offer) you can do a super balance transfer, in other words use it to pay off overdrafts and loans directly"

On this "You can only transfer 90% of your credit limit" question - It was always possible to transfer more than this on the old £1/month offer, simply be doing two (or more) balance transfers - I assume this still works:

Eg: BT 90% (leaving 10%), then BT 9% (90% of remaining credit limit). The only constraint was the mimimum BT needs to be £250. So to get to the limit of £5000 transferred you only need a credit limit of about £5115* initially and BT £4500, followed by £500 in two transactions [Fee will be £100 - account balance £5100?]

*One month's interest is about £12.16, remember
