  • Thanks to MSE I have a Barclaycard with 0% interest for the life of the balance assuming the account was used on a monthly basis. I set up a charitable donation via MSE web site for the minimum amount (through PayPal) exactly as MSE suggested. Everything was going ok from August 2003 until December 2003 when Barclaycard cancelled the December 1st payment. No payments have been made since that date and I have been paying interest since December. I have to own up to not checking my monthly statements, as the minimum payment is paid by direct debit and the PayPal payment was being paid by Barclaycard. Have you heard of this problem before or is it an isolated incident? I have been in touch with Barclaycard but as yet have had little success as their records only go back six months!!

I would be grateful of any help or advice.

    Oh dear!

You really should have stepped in and sorted out the non-payment problem. [eg making one-off purchases of £1-£5 even if that meant carrying it around with your other cards] Sounds like the best option [now if poss] is to clear that balance altogether between now and the end of July [BT to another credit card - any card will do] and then just BT back to barclaycard at 2.9% 'for-life'.

[You might also want to ask Barclaycard for a higher limit - depending on what it currently is - so as to be abl to maximise on this offer - upto £5k transfers allowed]

    Good luck

  • I received my REJECTION yesterday! Read above for the background. Needless to say that they took so long to confirm one way or another blah, blah, blah... read the email I sent their "Decision Manager"...

    "Dear Ms Collins,

You are correct when you say that I have until recently had a Barclaycard.

I cancelled my card the other week. I made the decision based on the fact that I had no further use for it and I was not happy with the better offer for new customers rather than current ones.

It then transpired I had a new requirement for a large balance transfer so I applied for the new card.

Due to the length of time taken for you to confirm one way or another I have since successfully and without hassle applied for the new Halifax One Card with a larger credit limit than I had with BC (£7k) - I sent the paperwork back to them the same day your letter arrived. Their turnaround was 2 days, yours was a couple of weeks or so.

    Thanks for your letter.

    Regards,"

Got my PIN today (applied 2/6), no card yet.  Called and was told my credit limit will be £4K higher than HBOS offered me, £1K higher than I had with RBS Advanta.

My first real experience with barclaycard service today. No card yet, but I received a letter from them saying, among other things, we "have been unable to process your requested balance transfer(s) without checking some details with you."

It goes on to say, "Please contact me, or one of my colleagues, on the above telephone number and have the following information ready." It then asks for the exact information I put on the application.

I then (of course) called them. The person I spoke to took a lot of details, then told me he couldn't do the BT until I receive the card. When I asked why I received a letter telling me to call, he didn't believe me at first, until I gave him the reference number on the letter.

He then told me that since I was calling to do a BT, he assumed I had the card, so had activated it! ::)

He assured me that I would not be liable if the card goes missing. :P
I have five stars! This doesn't mean that I know anything about any of the things I post. I could be a raving lunatic, or a brilliant genius, or just some guy on the internet. In fact, I could be all three at the same time.

If anything I say makes sense, then do it. If not, don't. Don't blame me or my stars if you do something stupid because I suggested it. I'm responsible for my own stupidity only. You are responsible for yours.

Why, I don't even have five stars anymore! Aren't you glad you aren't responsible for my stupidity?

I have been sent a letter that says my Barclaycard 'is ready and waiting' for my signature. This means that I have been accepted, right? They didn't want much info online at all. There is no credit limit stated and the offer (0% 'til August 05) was only in the smallprint. I have only had one credit card before and I'm not working so this all seems too easy to me...!

I applied at a branch on 7 June and haven't heard anything.

Reading the posts, it seems when people eventually get their cards, they have miserly credit limits.

A low limit with the chance of up-ing it in a few months is a clever trick by Barclays - BT's must be done in the first 60 days. :(

I'm waiting to BT all I can to Egg, and then (in July, my aniversary month), into my bank & offsetting my motgage. :)

I have received the offer of the 0% Barclay Card. I have never had a credit card b4 but do have a loan with another bank. Can I pay off this loan with the Barclay credit card in order to take advantage of the 0% offer? Will this be deemed to be a balance transfer or not?

Any advice would be truly appreciated. Ed.

Got mine the other day, a miserly £400 limit, thousands less than my other 3 cards which all have perfect payment histories.

They obviously don't like the fact I'm relatively maxxed out on my other cards, although they're not to know I'm a 0% tarter.

Card arrived Saturday, 24 days after application was posted. It had indeed been activated when I called to confirm. BT is supposedly now being processed....

In response to the credit limit queries, I got a higher limit than I've had with RBS, and much higher than HBOS offered me. But I've never been with them before, and I've not been a rate tart before. It may be that they are looking out for rate tarts and not giving much of a limit. I suppose you could always ask them to increase it.
