I can see issues here in that say direct debits fail, I know my credit card will charge me a late payment fee, who pays that?

If you go into a branch when this 'technical glitch' has been fixed, the staff should be able to cancel the overdraft charges, if it is related to the current issues.

Think the branches and helplines will be very busy next week !!!

I have no money, and I'm going to have to cancel my online shopping and go into the branch (with 5 children - bus fare £7.50 or 2.5 mile walk) try and get cash and take said 5 children to the supermarket - on a Saturday, on the bus, you try getting a week's worth of shopping for7 people home on a bus :(

    Not happy!

ETA The doorbell just went, Tesco have had a system crash as well (don't know how widespread) and they delivered the shopping anyway even though I explained it wasn't paid for, he just said they'd take payment at some point?

RBS group will refund you this, if it has been caused by the current problem. I suspect that RBS will announce a process for dealing with these issues over the weekend. ( Well they should do this and make announcements on all media outlets )

PS. It won't just be the late payment fee, but any interest that you pay on your next statement will also be affected by the late payment. So it will be £12, plus the relevant sum of extra interest.

Why cancel online shopping ? I have used a NatWest debit card online with no problems. As long as you will have money going in to cover the payment, then just act as normal.

Go into a branch or speak to the NatWest helpline to see what they suggest. If you speak to your landlord, they should be aware of the possibility of late payments due to this banking glitch.

Previously they have rung me and said unless I can cover the full payment then the shopping won't be delivered.

This is how I found out that they check you have the full amount before processing payment

ie: guide price pre promotions £250, guide price with promotions £199, Tesco won't deliver the shopping unless £250 is in the bank even though you only actually pay the £199.

I have never had shopping delivered before the money is taken until today. Ever.
