There's a bit of scaremongering going on here, the government protect a certain amount of money in each bank for each person. I can't remember the exact number but no doubt someone here will tell you. Your solicitor will have a receipt from the transfer so your money hasn't disappeared and should the worst happen it will be possible to get it back.
Something for y'all to read, assuming the worst happened:

I think it's something to do with the process of migration of accounts to Santander (All RBS branches, and NatWest branches in Scotland).
Or more specifically something has gone wrong with the process of migration of accounts to Santander!
I've said this to you elsewhere that all English RBS customers now have a separate Santander login and have done for the past several weeks.
In what way could you possibly attribute a problem with Nat West's batch payment systems to the migration of English RBS customers to Santander, which seemingly has already happened in all but name and without glitch?0 -

Does anyone who banks with Lloyds have the sand problem? DH wages hasn't gone in and his employers said thatit could be his bank as Natwest
are having problems too? From this comment I assume they don't use Natwest.
We just returned from holiday so are slimy and haven food at
home as we used it all upbefore we go and as we only buy what we need for meals don't have any reserves in the cupboard.Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0 -
I had this problem yesterday, and was told be sorted by 9.30am, which it wasn't, then by midday, then by 4pm, at 4.15pm my account was correct, credits showing, direct debits taken as should be, amazed though the same thing has happened to others today , I had someone from Halifax transfer cash to my account today and it is showing, I know its easy to say just be patient, they will sort it but it's not Natwest being without cash it is it's customers. They did sort mine eventually yesterday, if you need your cash go into branch, they do understand the problem and there are procedures I'm told they are following.0

I too was waiting tax credits into my account today, also have a payment supposed to be going in tomorrow.
My account was showing a negative balance but that is incorrect unless there has been suspicous activity on my account. That cant be checked as the bank staff cant see any details on my account.
They have allowed me to take out £200 but told me that if this puts me overdrawn (it will if they havent accepted my tax credit payment,) Then I will have to pay charges! But I am going away for the weekend so needed some cash.On sky just now they said the latest info is that the problem is fixed but the backlogs and problems will not be sorted till Monday at the earliest.
Seems to me, they havent a clue. My local natwest had queues out of the door and many people were trying to draw or transfer large sums to other accounts. I think people are very worried about what is happening..0
