This seems a bit odd to me, why can some get money and others not? Does NW/RBS have different software for different areas or is it affecting certain surnames / acc nos?

I think it's something to do with the process of migration of accounts to Santander (All RBS branches, and NatWest branches in Scotland).

Or more specifically something has gone wrong with the process of migration of accounts to Santander!

Must be a software / systems / process nightmare, and if indeed it is the case that the problem is related to the migration (where accounts have to be managed in parallel by acquiring and selling bank) i'm not surprised - the potential for something to go wrong is enormous.

I can now faster payments between Natwest and Halifax from both my personal and business acoounts and the balances update immediately. The large incoming BACS payment that should've arrived in my Natwest account overnight last night is still AWOL

It's natural to make up all sorts of spook type stories when computer systems go wrong.

Put it this way - if RBS was in some sort of trouble the Bank Of England would immediately step in to guarantee funds, much as they did during the credit crunch (though we didn't know, and life continued normally). It would have been seamless.

Thanks, but I'm not making up a spook story, just pointing out that some systems have been rectified more quickly than others.

The longevity of the problems actually persuade me to the way of thinking that says that this is exactly what it says on the tin.

I tend to agree with you. And I expect their technicians are bricking it right now and working their butts off to fix everything.

I'm a bit concerned however over the confilicting news reports. They had someone from Natwest on Radio2 lunchtime saying the problem occured Wednesday night, but I have been unable to access my account since Tuesday 8am.

It definitely started before then, I was meant to complete on my re-mortgage on Wednesday but my solicitor phoned me around 10am saying their systems were down and wouldn't be happening that day. Still waiting! Thank goodness mine is only a re-mortgage, I really feel for anyone who planned to actually move house this week :(

Charming! I've just had to phone FD to ask to increase our OD to cover for if this situation isn't resolved by next week, so ensure all DD's are paid etc. Had to pay 25 pounds to do that. Can I claim that 25 pounds back from NatWest as its due to their problems our salary hasn't gone into bank and caused this?

Can none NatWest customers reclaim costs incurred?

My baby should not have to go without for a few days! How do you know all will be fine? Are you a doctor? Do you know my or my unborn babies medical state? Don't tell me what will be ok unless you are. Your statement is disgusting!

Bully for you being so perfect having abundanes of reserves in your cupboards! Aren't you just soo clever:( As I stated earlier this is the 3rd day now and I have used all my extras in the cupboard and freezer up. No I don't have any friends or family that can lend to me as those that I do have are also experiencing similar problems as me.

I completely agree, there are too many people on here quick to say how good they are for having extra food in their cupboards but the point is why should people do this? It's not as if you expect the bank to have a "technical glitch" that lasts for days and even if people could lend money or get food off friends and family the point is they shouldn't NEED to, everyone affected has money that is rightfully there's, if people had spent all there money knowing they had a week before getting anymore then fine have a go, but everyone including myself expected money to be in their account and have plans for the money, and no an unborn baby and it's mother can not go without food. People need to think before posting patronising comments on here, the situation is stressful enough without people adding to it with silly messages.

It's things like milk, nappies etc that people need desperately. A few pounds doesn't cover that and you wouldn't expect a bank to totally freeze

I expect there are a lot of worried and scared parents out there wondering where there next meal is coming and I've been there and is not nice at all. Let's hope it gets fixed asap
  • natwest told me this mrning things would be done by lunch time today but apparently not.. so is wednesday the day then?

Yes. They have confirmed on The Daily Mail website that the bank has admitted it won't be fixed till next week. It will be Wednesday as I previously advised. People need to be able to find solutions to the problems this is causing everyone. I've just had to pay to increase my OD as that is cheaper than charges for none paid DD's. What will those who don't have OD facilities do now?
