  • A lot of affected people are those who do not bank with NatWest or RBS - they are those whose wages are paid from their Employers NatWest or RBS Account - their Banks won't necessarily be so understanding or let them get cash out if there is not enough showing on their account. At least those who Bank with NatWest can get some Cash

    Here's something interesting...

I just did a little experiment. I personally bank with Nationwide, but I'ev just this minute been out to the Natwest cashpoint and withdrawn some cash. Less than 10 minutes later I was back at my desk and checked my online banking with Nationwide and guess what? The cash withdrawal is already showing on my account.

So it seems that SOME of Natwest's systems ARE working. Am I being cynical when thinking how convenient it is that cash going out of their funds is still immediately tracked....?

Just used the RBS Cashpoint outside of work and took £10 out with my NatWest debit card.

Looked online, no such transaction logged as yet.

This seems a bit odd to me, why can some get money and others not? Does NW/RBS have different software for different areas or is it affecting certain surnames / acc nos?

It's all a bit too weird. Why couldn't they roll the system back to a couple of days ago? We have back-ups in case info is lost and has to be recovered.

I'm off to ask the techie peeps.

PS I don't use NW but employer does, have to see what happens.

Just checked online again, the cash I took out earlier is showing (as before) but I cannot look at statements or pay my credit card. :)

Your debit card withdrawal is done through the link network, if it was a Natwest account I don't think the debit would be showing yet.

The problem is with BACS transfers in the main, and the bill payment/transfer system.

So yes, you are, IMO, overthinking this.

It's natural to make up all sorts of spook type stories when computer systems go wrong.

Put it this way - if RBS was in some sort of trouble the Bank Of England would immediately step in to guarantee funds, much as they did during the credit crunch (though we didn't know, and life continued normally). It would have been seamless.

The longevity of the problems actually persuade me to the way of thinking that says that this is exactly what it says on the tin.

It certainly would be. More or less instantaneously actually.

Your unborn baby will be fine, it can manage quite well without you eating for a few days.

Do you not have family or friends who can help you out ? If not with cash then with some cheap groceries until you can repay them ? I know that if any of my friends or neighbours were in this situation i'd be more than happy to give them some food.

I'm with Lolavix, i can always find something in my cupboard to tide us over for a few days, i keep these things for times such as bad weather or when my car is off the road or i'm ill and can't get out to do any shopping. Even cheap pasta and tinned tomatoes with some cheese, or baked beans and a loaf in the freezer will do.

My baby should not have to go without for a few days! How do you know all will be fine? Are you a doctor? Do you know my or my unborn babies medical state? Don't tell me what will be ok unless you are. Your statement is disgusting!

Bully for you being so perfect having abundanes of reserves in your cupboards! Aren't you just soo clever:( As I stated earlier this is the 3rd day now and I have used all my extras in the cupboard and freezer up. No I don't have any friends or family that can lend to me as those that I do have are also experiencing similar problems as me.
