How can you explain that my salary shows as being paid in to my bank on 20th, by 21st the closing balance is completely wrong. Had a large deposit to my account last Friday and it showed on my account summary. It was still there on the Saturday morning. Then later on in the morning, disappears with no sign of it having been paid in.
For RBS to say the problem has been fixed is a blatant lie. My wife's salary should have been paid in today' it is not showing. Other people at work have the same problem.
My son can't pay his car insurance and has had his mobile phone cut off. I guess due to his direct debit having not been paid.

They've been rolling back some of the transactions .... a bit like a "system restore". So some of what was there a few days ago has been reversed out, but it will be reinstated.

The problem may well have been fixed, but it still remains that RBS/NW then have to replace/reinstate all the subsequent transactions.

What you see via online banking is not necessarily what the main accounts system shows.

Surprised that son's mobile has been cut off that quickly. When was his payment due? Has he spoken to mobile company and car insurer?

ps Have also worked for two banks, although neither of them were UK retail banks (hint: one is known as Sh!ttyBank
They do have a UK retail operation. Last year when they tried to introduce FP, they made such a mess of it that all incoming BACS payments were rejected for a week.

That seems to have passed off relatively quietly, from the compensation angle. But I don't suppose they do many employers' pay runs.
"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis

My home phone has been cut off to incoming only,so I was anticipating by broadband to go off next.Called O2 this morning & they said they have gotten an E-Mail from their bosses to instruct them to take a note of anyone who calls in who's in the same position as myself, and their service will be re-enstated as a good will gesture.Suggest your son calls his mobile provider on that basis.

Absolutely no basis or knowledge on which to suggest this, but I wonder if they're being left waiting while the much bigger brother is sorted out first. I really hope not for their customers' sake.

I don't think they have a clue to be honest when it'll be fixed. Come Friday I bet the goal post shift again.

The boss of Ulsterbank said apparently Ulsterbank systems require more manual correcting than the other 2 banks.

As another poster suggested, it seems they're relegated to "last in the queue".

I wasn't entirely paying attention, but I heard something on The World at One on R4 at lunchtime.

I suspect that all the different banking systems - RBS, NW, Ulster Bank, Coutts etc - are still, to a large extent, unconnected ...so that a fix in one part of the system doesn't mean that "all is fixed". As far as I can tell, RBS is affected to a much lesser extent than NW; Coutts not at all; and Ulster Bank worst of all.

I really feel for all those involved :(

I have a couple of questions some of you may be able to answer. I've learnt so much reading this thread over the last couple of days that I now realise I know nothing about banks!

I wasn't paid on friday and went to branch for some cash. That evening my pay went in and natwest were paid back so to speak so all balanced out. Can I ask what will happen if the same thing happens on friday? Will I still be entitled to money? Also what will happen to those who still haven't been paid as the branches have only allowed £300 per person? I don't mean to worry anybody and I am hoping I am worrying needlessly but as a mother that's what I do!

Another thing is my mum is disabled and is housebound. She is due to be paid disability tomorrow and have her shopping delivered then too. She is worried she might not get paid and as she will not be able to go to the branch to get money out and I am assuming her carers won't be able to get money for her for obvious security reasons. I live in a different part of the country to her and don't drive. Any ideas on what will happen so I can try and reassure her?
