I went through a proxy site and could get to the log in page no problem.
It's possible that this has almost annoyed me more than the original issue!

Exactly - way more annoyed about this! I will be making formal complaint, not acceptable on so many levels :(

Why they have done it - not entirely sure!

I don't understand why they would do it either? Seems a bizarre way if they just wanted to perhaps limit access.
If its any use to you I switched my router on and then off again and can now log onto the site fine.
  • The blocking IP's is more likely to just be the way they throttle the website by limiting the number of connections. They'll be doing this so that once you get a connection it is fast and reliable.

The website is treating everyone using a proxy as one connection.

Why anyone would be insane enough to use a public free and entirely untrustable proxy to access their bank account is beyond me though.
  • Just been to buy something on my card, came up with card blocked? Couldn't swipe or chip and pin

Exactly what it is - only solutions i've been told is to shutdown overnight or use someone else's computer - work or parents.

Someone did paste a free proxy website on Natwest ideas, but I personally not sure how safe this is, so not going to do that.

I will be going into the bank tomorrow, and will be make a formal complaint about IP address issue, as this is not acceptable.
What a ridiculous thing to say.

You have no foundation they have blocked blocks of IP addresses. You have no access to their systems to know if this is true and like others going of other peoples assumptions.

Secondly there are so many variables why you cannot access the site, immaterial if some can get through with a proxy.

thirdly it is their site and they can do what is needed with it to retain the integrity of the site or prevent too many concurrent connections in order to alleviate he pressure on their servers taking into account the amount of people logging onto see if things have updated changed.

Maybe better of spending your time not complaining so someone else in the queue is not held up whilst possibly trying to get money out that they might actually need tomorrow.

    !!!!!!

Excuse me - I will be in the queue tomorrow, beccause I get paid tomorrow and have no way of knowing if this has happened if I can not access my internet!! I then need bills that I need to pay - on the internet.

I have not had internet access for 3 days, I do not know if payments have gone out from last week!

It does seem to be true, it is all over their own website, they are not saying it is not true and the fact that people can access it when using different IP address suggests that it is true.

TCF - treating all customer equally. Being transparent - being open as to why there are issues, when they will be resoled. i.e not saying - the internet is working normally - clearly not. Complaints - everyone has the right to complain about the level of service they are being provided and if they believe it does not fit the service they were originally advised of.
  • thankfully for me, absolutely no problems with any of my RBS accounts at all, internet banking, iphone app both working fine as are my debit and credit card. Direct debits and standing orders been going in and out as have faster payment credits and debits

I didn't, I used it to get the first log on page which I haven't been able to do all day so far.
Now, on a different IP address I can get on fine.

They will probably have some form of rate limiting on the website, and continually trying the website will probably make it worse. They will have something in place to try and prevent Denial of Service attacks, if they see a lot of attempts at accessing the site from your IP address then they will block it for a certain amount of time.
