Natwest Technical Issues

I may have an explanation for why things seem to be working and then not then working again. It was told to me yesterday by a cashier in branch so I am not sure how feasible it is but wanted to share anyway.
My card wouldn't work for a short while when trying to get some cash in branch and she said they push the stuff through (sorry about my lack of technical terms, my mind was everywhere yesterday!), the backlog, and after a while it jams and everything stops working so they wait and do some more. So as not to jam the system they do it in small chunks.
I hope at least some of that makes sense. Maybe that is why the internet banking stops working then workd etc.0 -
Just 'internet explorer cannot display the webpage' comes up instantly. Can access other sucure sites fine.0

Could it be they're in a fairly messy situation where they've restored a backup file, re-applied transactions, and now things dont balance at all and they're stuck retrying things to try to get to where they think they should be?
Who knows! I just wait patiently to see what I see next
It's changed so many times already that I'm sure it will again, almost certainly by tomorrow I would have thought. Question is, will that be the end of the story or just another chapter...~cottager0 -

On Internet Explorer and Firefox, just website not available.
Ah, same here. If, as someone says above, they are blocking certain IP addresses, maybe that's what this error is to do with?
Edit: Have just tried via a proxy and have been able to get on fine. Seems they are blocking some IP addresses!0 -
I just hope that they haven't lost any data. Worst case scenario.0

All sorted in my case!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

Have you seen comments on The Register? The tecchie stuff goes way over my head, but I still went through all the comments, got something of the overall drift and found it interesting reading -- some contributors seem possibly to be ex-NatWest IT staff, or at least know what the IT setup is and what the likely scenario has been there over the past few days.

Exactly what it is - only solutions i've been told is to shutdown overnight or use someone else's computer - work or parents.
Someone did paste a free proxy website on Natwest ideas, but I personally not sure how safe this is, so not going to do that.
I will be going into the bank tomorrow, and will be make a formal complaint about IP address issue, as this is not acceptable.0 -
Why would Natwest block IP addresses ?0

I went through a proxy site and could get to the log in page no problem.
It's possible that this has almost annoyed me more than the original issue!0
