  • Computer Weekly reporting that the IT upgrade problem may have been related to mass outsoucing of backoffice IT systems to India. If so, will turn out to be a very expensive cost-cutting measure. I've worked in IT and it's very odd for upgrades to be done mid-week. Must have been a serious issue if done urgently. I think this all indicates to the growing fragility of the banking system.
While I was in the branch people on benefits were pleading for money so that they could feed their kids... What was that about society only being 3 meals away from revolution?

I am with RBS and my money still is not showing, and neither is the D/D for my car insurance coming out.

NatWest seems to slowly be getting sorted, does anyone who banks with RBS still have issues?

The process is that you go to a NW branch, with proof of what charges you have incurred.

The NW staff member will take the details and email them to a team that has been set up to deal with non-NW customers.

Each case will be looked at individually.

    Hth.

We went into our nearest Natwest branch Friday was told thy were not aware of any problem and if they did have a problem it shouldn't affect DH wages going in as its a different bank. If they don't even know whats going on they are unlikely to help us with any charges we have incurred.

I expect we will be one of the last people to get our money as they will probably deal with their own customers accounts firsts.
Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.

Call me cynical, but is there a chance the RBS group could be in financial trouble and maybe don't have the money? and could they collapse over this?
  • Anyone else getting the distinct impression the media is very much being controlled by the government on this issue (BBC especially)?

Also, why are the government so quiet on the issue? We should at least be hearing DC in all the media saying something along the lines of "Now is not the time for x,y,z, we must let them get everything back online and in order and then we'll see what changes need to be made" But no, nothing, even when its happened to the bank the government should have the most control and responsibility over.
  • I'm with both RBS and Natwest and my RBS account is still showing a minus, and no money in there from yesterday in yet.

Just a quick question that's come to me. What are people doing about due direct debits? Are the companies automatically dealing with it for Natwest etc customers or would I need to call them tomorrow to explain the non-payment/arrange alternative payment?

My phone & broadband bill (non DD) was due to be paid on Wednesday & Sky (by DD) as well,Sky's DD is showing as 'pending' on my Sky account & my O2 is still on,so I'm thinking companies are giving a by ball because of this RBS fiasco.

no. its over 80% state owned, BoE will "find" some money for it if needed.

However, I've been wondering how much worse the situation would have had to get before there was cash (as in the paper stuff) shortages? What with so much usually being done electronically/on plastic these days, to suddenly force millions of people to depend on the paper based stuff, is there actually enough out there to go around?

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more...
