But I didn't elect to stay with them following their notice of intended termination of the agreement w.e.f 22 January 2014.

I had the full direct debit taken after my cashback had been provided, so now annoyingly my account is in credit. Looks like I'm joining the ranks who should be receiving a cheque.0

Under the terms of the Direct Debit Scheme, they can only take the amount they advised you, otherwise you would have every right to claim it back from your bank under the terms of the DD guarantee.0 -
Yep, it was the statemented amount, therefore they did what they said they would do. In the past though it had been adjusted between statement amount and time of direct debit to take into account additional payments, so reducing the planned DD. I expected the DD to be reduced taking into account the cashback, but sadly it wasn't.0

As I said, they can only take what they have previously advised you of - it's known as the Advance Notice. To do otherwise is against the terms of the Direct Debit Scheme.
They could of course give you notice of a revised amount, but then the clock starts again - 10 working days plus postal time is the minimum unless otherwise agreed in advance and that would probably have resulted in a late payment fee and more importantly the loss of the cashback otherwise due to you.0 -
I thought they were closing the account. I just did a test transition of a £1 on the Aqua card -- It went through?! Anyone else...If I've help in anyway, please remember to thank me :-)0

What is a "test transistion".
Do you mean transaction?
Were you putting money in or taking it out?
I would have thought they would accept payments as plenty of people still have debit balances.
Not sure what a transition is though.0 -
Sorry, I paid for something of a quid on it - it went through! i.e. bought something online. Haven't check in a shop this to see if that works. Not sure if I'm brave enough for that and could copy with the embarrassment of it not working. If I've help in anyway, please remember to thank me :-)0

My point is that Aqua, annoyingly, have not afforded that same treatment to the cashback, so they have caused themselves further work in that they now need to refund myself and likely others, with cheques that could have been avoided if they had reduced the direct debit, like they have done every other month.0
