Except you won't have any as it's expensive.

It is often more expensive living alone. It would be nice to share the rent with someone occasionally. But, when you live on your own you can choose where you spend your money and where to save. You only have to look at MANY of the forum threads on this website to see that there are a lot of people who had no money problems until they started living with their partner.
  • I have a flatmate at the minute, but he works nights so with the exception of a day at the weekend, it is like living alone. He is actually very neat, and does his share of the cooking so that's not a problem.

However, being alone (before he moved in as well) allows me to:

Eat whatever I want. He'll have leftovers if I batch cook, or cook his own.
Wander around in my pants (to be honest, he wouldn't mind if I did that while he was there - he said so)
Sit on the sofa and readjust my knickers without thinking who might be watching.
Have a long uninterrupted bath, a full body-moisturise session or even a good fart without comment.
    Watching shameful telly.
    Reading shamefully bad books
Eating !!!!!! chicken when you can't be bothered to cook
Having the extra glass of wine without comment.
Knowing that the bills are paid, the mortgage is covered, and the flat is now more mine than the bank's.

I couldn't imagine having a different flatmate - he is great, but when he moves on, I won't be at all scared of living alone again. When he goes away for the weekend, I strip off and wander about naked for a bit, just because I can. He tried it once, but I'd forgotten my purse and walked back in.

Have you ever heard a naked 6'4 Yorkshireman scream like a girl? It's highly amusing.

:T ...I like the highlighted bits
  • I can have weetabix for tea if I fancy it

I've had that before now.

Should women not fart? Are their internal organs different from men?

What a great thread, I've been thinking since I added my super positive post yesterday and we all know there are some downsides. I wouldn't swap as the positive outweigh the negatives. Although occasionally after a long day at work it would be nice to come home to a cup of tea and dinner on the table. Or just occasionally for somebody else to do the 'blue' jobs, so it isn't always me mowing the law or putting the bins out! I'm not that great at DIY so I usually always have to ask for help if I want pictures hanging, etc. And probably the most important companionship. I have plenty of friends and family but sharing life with a loved one is unbeatable, although in future I may not want to share a house with that loved one! ;-)
  • Thank you all for your replies.

My move to living alone is being finalised- we have had an honest and frank chat. There are several months left on tenancy- I can manage alone for those. I need to pay OH their half of deposit.

Luckily all household items are mine- bed/white goods/sofa/tv etc

Feasibly OH can move out in one car load. Most bills in my name, might need to remove him from one.

In total, I need to hand over £800. I work two jobs so can earn more should I need to.

Could take in a lodger should the need arise- would check with landlord about this- but not planning on having to do this.

Am scoping rental places for when the tenancy is up here.

Still loving reading the responses on this thread- they are giving me something to focus on for when all this unpleasant atmosphere and aggresion has left my life.

If you feel lonely living alone get a rescue cat. Inexpensive to 'run', a good balance of dependence and independence, do still hog the bed like a human tho! :rotfl:
