  • always having a cool side of the bed to move to on a hot night!!!!

being able to watch the football without being moaned at!!!!

being able to spend as much time as i like online without being moaned at!!!!

if the house is untidy i know i wont be moaned at, cos its just me and the kids here to see it, and i dont expect to have an imacculate house with kids in it!

I actually really like living alone, i didnt think i would ever feel this way after my ex husband left, but now i worry that i couldnt live with a bloke again. The couple of brief relationships ive had, ive felt weird having a bloke in my space, and god i couldnt sleep when they were in my bed all night lol. i guess i just need to find the right man and all those feelings will change, but for now im loving living alone, well alone as you can be with a 6 & 3 year old lol

If you have a three bedroom place, then you can have a guest bedroom AND a dressing room. :D

I saw this this morning and only now getting a chance to post. I moved into my little cottage on 21st June 4 years ago, aged 37, never having lived on my own. I would never ever ever live with anyone again! my house is perfect, I'm a bit of a neat freak, but I can leave my knitting out and now that no one is going to complain, I have a spare bedroom and my third bedroom is my most perfect office, with a massive desk, all my books, a sofa if I need a lie down (not quite sure why - the dog sleeps on it!) and a huge bathroom.

The perks - no one ever messes up my bathroom. When I leave the cottage, it is exactly the same when I return home. I can't stand noise, so I can sit and read for hours and hours, eat what I want, sleep when I want (I'm a mature student and also work funny hours). No one criticises me when I slob around in my jammies at 3pm (I live on a farm, farm guys are amazed when I get dressed!). A few weeks ago my brother stayed for the night and that was strange - he went for a shower and when he left my house smelt of "man" (shower gel really!).

I truly cannot ever ever imagine anyone living here apart from me, I love my single quiet life, my ex always had to have the tv on, I didn't even have a tv for the first couple of years.

I love living alone. I really don't like people in my space because I have got so used to it. As other people have said it's great just doing what you want. When I was doing a course I could spend hours every evening working on it without someone moaning that they were being neglected. If I can't sleep and decide to work on one of my hobbies in the middle of the night there is no to complain that I am disturbing them. If I decide I fancy going to the cinema after work I can just go. If I want to eat cereal for dinner I can. If I want to spend the evening watching my favourite films no one complains. When the weekend comes around I sit there and decide what I want to do and don't have to consult anyone.

Of course there are downsides, but there are always downsides to everything in life.

Hee hee, I have the best of both worlds - my OH lives 2 doors up so we can choose if and when we want each other's company :D

My aunt and uncle have been together for decades and have never lived together. It has always suited them. They have this lovely life together, but they also have their individual lives which they keep separate. People think they are weird, but they are so happy.

I once had a conversation about this with someone who fantasised about building an attic style dressing room, accessed by a spiral staircase.

The vision was very scrummy, with high ceilings, reams of room and tons of sunlight streaming in.

Someday... With a large part of the room dedicated to shoes.

I lived on my own for the best part of a year, moved in with the (now ex) bf, and now I've been living alone for a week. People worry I'll get lonely. I'm not. I get to have rooms the way I want, come and go as I please, eat when I like, leave my shoes sitting out if I want to... Come to think of it, there's more room for my shoes! Its great!

Except you won't have any as it's expensive.

Actually, you will, as you can now choose what to skimp on and what to splash out on. :)
