Oh I wish I lived on my own for all the reasons stated but I'd have to get rid of the OH and the kids so I guess that isn't going to happen then.:D

Oh, you just have to wait for until the house next door is put up for sale :D

Living alone... been doing it for three years now (somewhat desperate for male company but this is neither the time nor the thread...).

OK. If you are on your own right now - just stop, and listen. Shhhh! Listen. Can you hear that...? That is the sound of peace and quiet. Bliss.

I don't even have a TV (can't afford the licence). But the pleasure of sitting quietly reading a good book in peace, with a little glass of something cheeky, after a madcap hectic day can NEVER be over-stated.

OP - I am sorry that you find the prospect of living alone again to be a challenge; this is completely and utterly understandable in your circumstances. Are you able, where you are, to have a pet? A sentient companion such as a dog or cat can work wonders if you are struggling by yourself - it's a friendly face who is always happy to see you. Also (I know it's a bit of a cliche and possibly the last thing you feel like doing at the moment) but are there any clubs/societies locally for things that might interest you? Do a bit of sniffing around in the local paper, libraries, noticeboards or local websites - you might find a jolly groups of bods you never knew existed!

Also - please remember - you don't have to live by yourself in order to be lonely. I've been living on my own (well, OK with dog - but still the only human here) for just over three years. And I was FAR more lonely before this, when I lived with others, than I am now.

PM me if you need a chat any time, OK? But it'll be alright. Trust me. Best wishes to you. x

The best thing......being able to be a starfish in bed!! Love having the whole bed to myself.

I love living on my own, some of my friends think I'm crazy to live on my own and ask if I get lonely, but I don't. I have a wide social circle and busy social life, so I'm out and about lots in the evenings. But love coming home to my house and the peace and quiet!

I love that if I don't want to tidy I don't have to, if I want friends over I don't have to ask (3 colleagues crashed at mine last night after a works night out!), I can leave uni work out and not worry that someone will move stuff/scribble on it etc!

I've been divorced for just over 4 years now and lived alone during that time, originally in the marital home then one I bought myself. I love living on my own and it didn't take that long to adjust!!
    • I am quite comfortable with my own company so I love shutting the front door to my own peace, quiet and privacy!
    • I like leaving things where I left them.
    • I like buying treats and them still being in the cupboard when I decided to eat them.
    • I like not getting moaned at when I'm home late from work.
    • If I'm feeling lazy I can have beans on toast and not feel I have to cook up a storm when I'm tired.
    • I like being able to please myself like watching what I want on TV.
    • Lights staying turned off when I'm not in a room.
    • Inviting people over and knowing they will go home!
This all sounds rather selfish but after what I went through I think I deserve it!

I love being divorced and living by myself (that sounds awful but its true!)
I have a dog so there is another living being in the house for a bit of company but the best bits are......
    • Knowing that there's a chocolate biscuit there if I want one
    • Having a chocolate biscuit and not feeling guilty;)
    • Not having to cook meat (I'm a veggie)
    • No man smell in the house (whether its bums, feet or general man smell):rotfl:
    • Telly to myself
    • Cheaper bills including food bills
    • Not having to justify everything
    • 100% less mess
    • Sheets still smelling clean a couple of days after changing them
    • More room for my stuff (2 wardrobes now with things not jammed in like before)
    • Getting up early (I'm always up by 7 even at the weekends) and not getting moaned at
    • Not having to creep around while someone else lies in bed until lunchtime
    • Having peace and quiet after a long noisy day in school (I'm a teacher)
And the ultimate best thing........no constant Xbox noises:T

I've lived on my own for years - love it.

I have a lot of hobbies and interests and a lot of friends so I'm never lonely and I enjoy my own company. Some of my mates are actually quite jealous. I can also go to the loo with the door open when lodger isn't here and only the cats will see!

Cheaper bills is a big plus.

    Less stress too.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I no longer live on my own, but my husband works away for the working week. In a few weeks one of my parents is moving in. So i am thinking about all the things i am going to miss in my 'alone' time.

    1. Running the house cheaply. I have lived without heating (well, i have a dodgy woodburner) since the winter before last. This is obviously not going to suit an older person and so our bills are going to shoot up.

    2. Peace, peace, peace.

    3. Noise , noise , noise, when i want it, as loud as i want it on the station or cd from which i want it

    4. Not checking with others about food, meals, plans

    5. Not getting dressed when i do not have to

    6. Using the bathroom without checking other peoe's convenience,

    7. Talkilng to myself (i do this a lot)

    8. Spending too much time on mse unchecked!

    9. Trying things out without being watched or critqued...e.g....have been painting a room and tried different experiments with a colour stripe and would have hated an audience.

    10. Antisocial hours. I get up early, very early, and get most of my day done then. I nap in the middle of the day (not great with other people about) and am often up in the middle of the night, and don't have to worry about disturbing poeple then.

There is lits to live about being alone. Most of all finding pleaure in your own company will become very rewarding.

Think it sold for £2.5 mill last time it sold so I don't think OH would buy it for me.:(
  • I love living on my own :) it's just me and my 21 yr old disabled daughter and I honestly love it. I love being able to talk on the phone for ages with my friends talking about anything and everything, love having the bed and remote control to myself. Watch what I want, watch my supernatural box set whenever I want, stay on the laptop as long as I want, buy what food I like.....it would take a lot to get me ever to live with anyone ever again.

Every time I talk to my friends who are all "partnered" up and listen to them talking about the arguments and disagreements with their partners I think thank god I don't have all that hassle and drama anymore.

Good luck and hope you enjoy it as much as I do xxxx
