what's the best thing about living alone??

I highly recommend getting an electric blanket.
I met my late husband when I was 19, so had spent virtually all my adult life with him. I hadn't realised how much he heated up the bed!
I would wake up crying, and thought it was grief. My very good friend took me shopping for a hot water bottle, and I slept like a baby. Lol.0 -
I totally agree with the electric blanket suggestion - it's winter here and DH is working away 2 weeks, home for one week (and repeat). And it's winter here and by gum, was I cold until I remembered we have an elec blanket and put it on the bed. I love it! Don't use it when he's home, he gets too hot so I just steal heat from him
After reading some posts about having a bath in peace, I'm going to go to Lush tomorrow for some smelly things and enjoy a nice hot bath - with no disturbances:j0 -

I can also go to the loo with the door open when lodger isn't here and only the cats will see!
Mine insist on accompanying me to the loo! When I lived with other people the loo was the only place I could guarantee to have to myself for a while, now its the opposite way round. Still love 'em though!Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -

Less stress too.
I dont live alone but I am alone alot during the day. Well I say alone but I have two very inquisitive Westies who follow me everywhere. So I go to the loo with the door open as they would paw the door to come in. In all seriousness structure and routine to your day is very important for combatting loneliness. Also a person can feel very alone surrounded by a roomful of people.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -

I, too, am always accompanied to the loo - usually it's a genial "Ohhh, so THAT'S how they do it..." look, if any look at all. But my first dog was a Jack Russell who used to... watch. Intently. It was most unsettling. At times, she used to watch with such fascination that I wondered if she had been placed here by alien masters to observe and report on human habits.
But she's been gone for a good 17 or so years, bless her, and no sign of the mothership yet - so I think we're safe. Jasper was far more discreet. He used to watch, but he never thought I noticed.0 -

I second the electric blanket!!!
Put in on for a couple of hours before sleeps and then starfish!I have a simple philosophy:
Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it itches.

No one to tell you what to do or to complain about your homemaking skills. No snoring or bed-hogging. No up/down toilet seats. If you have kids, no one to criticise your parenting skills. And a council tax discount. And you can turn all the radiators off and wear two sweaters instead (unless you have young kids). Quite a lot of stuff, really...0 -

It's great - I am far happier and more sociable than I was when I lived with my ex partner, and I love the freedom.
I love not having to think about anyone else, not having to fit my plans round them, not having to cook and eat at times that suit them!
I can eat what I like, when I like - I can have weetabix for tea if I fancy it, or decide to have people round and cook them a slap up meal without considering anyone else's like, dislikes, or behaviours...
My life is far more full than ever it was - I go out a lot, and often stop with friends, or have people round here to stay.. this can now happen on the spur of the moment, without having to consider anyone else's opinions on my friends, the hours we stay up to, the daft conversations we have etc!
I have a useable spare room now, instead of a room full of junk, and the spare bed is often occupied by a visiting friend, (and the other half of my bed is only occupied when i want it to be!;))
...to the poster earlier in the thread, who was only four days into living alone - I assume this is after a split? If so, it will get easier, honest... I was bereft at first, I felt like a lost soul, and so, so lonely... but not now!Be kind to yourself, and look after yourself...
