Except you won't have any as it's expensive.

Ever heard of this newfangled, wild notion of a woman being self-sufficient?

It's a little out there, but I'm sure you can come round to the principles eventually.

Everything that everyone has already mentioned, plus one other thing that I absolutely love about living alone, which is never feeling lonely any more.

When I lived with my ex and our relationship was breaking down I used to feel very, very lonely a lot of the time. Maybe it was because I was supposed to be "with" someone, but emotionally I no longer was with him. As we still shared a life it made me feel lonely.

Now I've forgotten what loneliness feels like, I really have. :D
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

Actually, you will, as you can now choose what to skimp on and what to splash out on. :)
Only if you have a good income to start with, or live in a cheap rent area.
  • I miss living alone! What I wouldn't give now for the peace and quiet of it all!
Some of my wonderful distant memories of being single.....

*When you leave the house tidy, that's how it will look when you come home.
*That cake you have been saving in the fridge, doesn't get eaten by someone else.
*You can invite people round for dinner and drinks and not have to check with anyone if its ok.
    * You can decorate the place how you want to.

You will love it! I am very jealous! Suppose I better go and start the kids lunch...sigh!

    ;-)

Depends really, I only earn a little above minimum wage but I got a great deal on my mortgage, I"m pretty frugal and I have a pretty decent standard of living.

I'm about a million times better off managing on my own rubbish income than I was when I was earning more than double, living with my ex who also made decent money but having to put up with him!

Better to poor and happy than comfortable and miserable!

I've always lived alone, except for with my parents as a child and young adult. So I've never known anything but my (a bit below average) salary. You live within your means but you know, if you are alone then you can decide and probably have the time, to work two jobs if you so wish. Or more. The choices are unending.

I would have to say though that those of you who say you live alone yet have children living with you - that's not living alone! I wouldn't describe myself as living alone if I had a lodger in the house, even if I had virtually nothing to do with them - so relatives of whatever age you have a certain responsibility for, even if it's only the politness of not wandering around naked and leaving the bathroom door open when you're on the loo. :D

I just like it because I always have the choice to be around people or not - even those who love living with either a signifcant other, friends or a whole family will probably say that what they would love most is once in a while being able to shut the door and have the house to themselves. Weekends I prepare and eat meals when I feel like it. So I'm usually up early so eat early. But then I might have my main meal of the day at 3.30pm. I have a rubbish house for guests who are unexpected though as there is nothing to offer them aside from a cuppa. When you live alone you can have no junk in the house at all - if you want crisps you go to the shop and buy a pack, if you want a bar of chocolate same deal. Biscuits, what are they? No temptation.

I have to say though it isn't for everyone, many people just like to be around others and have someone to talk to (surprising how many people actually admit that it's having someone to moan at/to that is really necessary!).

Pleasing myself, and not being subject to anyone, except my kids. :D

I love living alone, although have a boyfriend, and am happy to stay that way.

I have a flatmate at the minute, but he works nights so with the exception of a day at the weekend, it is like living alone. He is actually very neat, and does his share of the cooking so that's not a problem.

However, being alone (before he moved in as well) allows me to:

Eat whatever I want. He'll have leftovers if I batch cook, or cook his own.
Wander around in my pants (to be honest, he wouldn't mind if I did that while he was there - he said so)
Sit on the sofa and readjust my knickers without thinking who might be watching.
Have a long uninterrupted bath, a full body-moisturise session or even a good fart without comment.
    Watching shameful telly.
    Reading shamefully bad books
Eating !!!!!! chicken when you can't be bothered to cook
Having the extra glass of wine without comment.
Knowing that the bills are paid, the mortgage is covered, and the flat is now more mine than the bank's.

I couldn't imagine having a different flatmate - he is great, but when he moves on, I won't be at all scared of living alone again. When he goes away for the weekend, I strip off and wander about naked for a bit, just because I can. He tried it once, but I'd forgotten my purse and walked back in.

Have you ever heard a naked 6'4 Yorkshireman scream like a girl? It's highly amusing.
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

I lived on my own for 5 years between moving out of my parents house and moving in with my OH.

The main thing I miss about living on my own is being able to come home from work, get straight into my pyjamas, play computer games all evening and have beans on toast for dinner :rotfl:
