Anyone know of a good place in Manchester/Cheshire area for underarm hair removal, and what sort of prices?

I use the Sheffield branch of Sk:n they have a clinic in Manchester and the prices are on the website.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

Thats why you need to exfolliate. This may sound drastic, but you know those pot scourer things that have a piece of sponge inside what looks like some chain mail type stuff? If you use one of those with lots and lots of shower gel or soap, use it very gently, fantastic results! gets rid of any ingrown hairs and is great for pre-tanning too :) you'll be smooth as the proverbial baby's bum ;) and no need to pay out for so called exfolliating scrubs as they can be used time and time again.

I do exfoliate but I still get the little bumps :o

  • Love mine, wouldn't be without it. It does smart the first couple of times you use it but gradually most people get used to the discomfort and now, like sarahjovi, I don't even notice the pain... use it everywhere now and silky smooth (too much detail, sorry!!)

Hair takes alot longer to grow back, comes through much finer and after a long time using, it can for many people decrease the amount of hair growing back as continually 'ripping' out hair at the root can lead to follicle damage which can render these cells incapable of reshooting hair.

It's important to keep the machine clean and though I don't exfoliate, I find that a nice neutral ph moisturiser after waiting about 10 mins takes away any redness.

Tried one once, I don't think I've ever had anything that hurt so much! It must depend on your skin or hair or something, cos my mate barely flinched when she used it. Or maybe I am just a big wuss!

I got laser treatment in the end, it was expensive, but compared with what I've spent on razors, creams, waxing, etc over the years, I shoudl've done it years ago. I find it takes about 6 sessions for an area to be virtually hair free.

In the long term it got rid of the ingrowing hairs too :-) Though they were always worse a week or so after a session.

  • Ouch ouch ouch! I used mine for about 10 seconds and couldnt handle anymore - i even got OH to try as i kept chickening out myself - i take to waxing much easier - prob because its over alot quicker OH does it for me coz im a big pansy. And guess what im going to be waxing people as my job soon lol! (im in training as a beauty therapist).

I suppose you should get used to the pain if you can continue after the fist time - just make sure you exfoliate in the shower daily with a light body scrub and then once a week with a body brush (great for circulation too). If you do this you'll prob be fine.

Note - do not use over moles (pulling the hairs out of the moles can stimulate them to become cancerous over time).

I like mine even though it does hurt. I find if you use it regularly i.e a couple of times a week then it gets any new hair and doesn't hurt as much. If you do find it VERY painful the first time I would recommend shaving your legs then waiting 24 hrs then using it to get any new growth rather than trying to do it all at once.
The hair does seem to grow back finer and is less noticable as they seem to appear sporadically rather than all at once. I've noticed that my legs still feel slightly rough all the time but it's not too bad and haven't had any more of an ingrowing hair problem than with shaving and I find shaving makes you itchier.
Having used it on "other" areas I would definitely recommend it for bikini lines as an alternative to shaving as it gives a much better and longer lasting result. (Trim any hair first though as they tend to break rather than pull out if they are longer.) :D
  • Tried one , and quite frankly not brave enough to do it again, :p

I'm not convinced about the ice at all - surely it just tightens the hair follicle, so makes pulling the hair out more painful. I can understand that the ice has a numbing effect, but if it's numbing it AND making it more painful at the same time, surely it just cancels itself out?

I just grit my teeth and start with a small area, then work slowly outwards from there - it seems to be the least painful method lol!

    Hi all,

Just a quick one. Has anyone ever used an Epilator? If so, do you think they are worth the money and are they as painful as they sound? Is it worth paying out a little more for one of the ones that has an ice function on it?

    Thanks

    Taliwillow

I can not use one it was too painful for me. I just got a wet and dry lady shave from remmingtons and give my legs a quick whiz when I need to.

My mum has an epilator and i often catch her trying to use my ladyshave
