For the 2.75% direct ISA 6 can I do a transfer using the internet from last years accounts ... large sum from the Direct ISA issue 5 and £5100 from the Reward ISA or will I have to phone.
I do not know if the A&L online banking actually allows you to do what you suggest, I hope not but there have been reports in the past that some banks do.0 -
Hi - hope this hasn't been asked 1000 times already but this is a very long thread!
We want to transfer my GF's 09/10 HSBC ISA to the Nationwide e-ISA at 2.75% but it says it is only available to thier card account customers - I'm quite happy to open another current account with them which can remain unused but are there any conditions attatched to it such as having to have her wages paid in or anything similar?
I had to open a natwest account when I moved from HSBC to natwest last year which apparently was just incase I overpaid my ISA so they had somewhere to dump the additional funds.0 -

You don't have to pay your salary in, or keep a minimum balance (with the Flex Account, anyway. I just keep £1 in mine).0 -
I have carried out exactly as above.. have opened the 2 accounts and been accepted and they have been linked to my other A & L accounts and given the new numbers. Now only need to fund these accounts. I realise I can fund the flexible 3.2% account from my current account. Hi boobby,
DO NOT DO A INTERNET BANKING TRANSFER OF YOUR MATURE ISA. Martinman3 is absolutely correct you will have withdrawn the money and you will only have the 2010-2011 allowance of £5100 available to deposit.
For most transfers of mature ISA (previous tax years) you will need to complete a transfer form which you should be able to access online. I've just been to the relevant page on the A&L site here http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/savings/direct-isa.aspx?ct=mybankmar10disa&cm_mmc=mybank-_-ibh-_-mar10disa and you will see in the last tick in the 'At A Glance features' this link:
Looking to transfer in money held in another ISA account? Download our ISA transfer form (pdf**).
Once you click on the link it opens the document in pdf format. Either print, complete and send to A&L or if you have the software to write on a pdf then complete before printing and sending to the address on the form.
Hope that helps,

Well I made my mind up the principality at 4.0% looked attractive but the restrictions were quite harsh!!
After giving them a bell they said they only allow 12 transfers per year and only in the final month of the term can you add extra cash in, nor can it be serviced online which was a negative point for me as I like to keep track of my accounts when I feel the need to!.
So in the end the A&L at 3.2% seemed the better option sereing as they have now re-opened up online applications!!
sooo bring it on A&L :j0 -
Fancied applying for the Dunfermline 1 year fixed for a transfer in, anyone know if this can be opened fully online? I only ask as last year I opened a Halifax ISA online, only to be told at the end of the process that I still had to call in a branch to prove my id! Reading posts on here, it seems a lot of people open online without going in a branch, thus why I am asking if anyone knows about Dunfermline??
Also the same question for Santander/A&L for a new money ISA please?
My biggest appreciation to the OP, this thread has to be one of the most beneficial threads on the entire forum :beer:0 -

Halifax will attempt to verify your identity online when you apply - which would have saved you the visit to the branch if it had been successful.
So, as the ID check failed last year, it's unlikely to be successful this time (unless anything has changed since then - they take your name from credit reference agencies, the electoral role and utility bills).
Santander do not use the electronic verification system, so unless you already hold an account with them you would certainly need to provide ID.0 -
Thanks RB10. I wonder if the fact I have no utility bills in my name, no mortgage etc goes against me? I still live at home and thus dont pay any bills direct.
You would think my credit check would be good as I have no debts, but plenty of savings!!!0 -

That'll be why then. Wherever you apply to, you'll probably have to provide paper ID (unless you already have accounts at that bank). You would think my credit check would be good as I have no debts, but plenty of savings!!!
It's not a credit check that they do - just an identification check to see that you exist.
If they can see you on the electoral role, and can see that you are on the credit reference agencies' databases, then you most probably exist! They don't care whether you are in debt or not - and so do not check what credit products you hold as part of the electronic ID check.
(As an aside, there's no way of banks finding out that you hold money in savings elsewhere - even if they did do a credit check, it would only tell them what credit products [e.g. current accounts, credit cards, mortgage] you hold elsewhere. There is no central list of your savings acccounts; they are just kept between you and the bank concerned.)0 -
As I dont like the idea of sending id through the post, I think it may be a good idea I only choose products that have a branch accessible then!!
This whole money thing is a vicious circle, I dont earn enough on my own to get a mortgage for the prices the houses are at, but have plenty of savings for a deposit!! I also heard that I would have difficulties getting a mortgage as well because I "dont exist" id wise!!! It seems a passport and driving licence (and electroral roll) do not suffice!!
Thanks a lot for your help though.0
