Thank you GR for the kale pesto idea - I had just come onto this thread to ask for some ideas on sneaking kale onto my DH and kids' plates! I have some parmesan that needs eating up too. That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest. Henry David Thoreau0

I'm glad the lentil lasagne is still going strong and that the kale recipe is popular. I'd never had it until this week.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

I made the galette tonight, following the instructions on here. Absolutely delicious. I used up some gammon in it and added some grated cheddar cheese to the mix. Cooked it at 160 for 30 minutes and then turned up to 180 for the last 15 minutes. Perfect. We had a quarter of the pie each (2 of us) and served it with some cherry tomatoes baked in olive oil. The two remaining quarters we will have cold for lunch tomorrow.
This a quick and very easy meal to make. My OH loves it and says it goes very well with HP sauce
A big thank you to Gingham Ribbon for introducing this to us! :jEnjoying an MSE OS life0 -
I'm so glad there's another galette fan! And I'm glad the cheddar worked as I'm planning to use it in mine this week.
Someone is likely to have a better creamy pasta recipe and I'd love to hear ideas but this is what I do:
I fried some mushrooms in a little oil with some crushed garlic. When the pasta was nearly done, I turned down the heat a little, drained the juice from the mushrooms and added some single cream, let it reduce a little and stired in some grated parmesan. They were just cheap mushrooms, but I understand if you use decent ones you're supposed to keep cooking till they've absorbed the moisture again as there is a lot of flavour in it.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
My OH and I tried the gallette too. It was really quick to make, and I used veggie bacon chopped up into small pieces. It was yummy, although it did take a while longer to cook - will use a shallower dish next time. I used herbs de provence in mine as we didn't have any parsley, and it was great. We too had a quarter each, and I was tempted to have more. Have found a yummy sounding veggie dish to use up the other half of the cabbage : Sweet potato cake http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/sweetpotatocake_78892.shtmlEnjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170

Gingham - you've reminded me of a creamy pasta recipe I haven't made in aaaages.
I saute onions, mushrooms and garlic, once they are done, add a tin of chickpeas, when they are warmed through, stir in single cream and mix with the cooked pasta. I find if its a bit thick, adding some of the pasta water is a good way to thin it down.
Adding veggie bacon works really well with this one too0 -
The galette sure is proving popular Gingham!!:D
Late afternoon I was searching through the fridge and freezer for inspiration for dinner tonight ( just call me miss organised, not!:o ) Nothing was grabbing me until I spied a small *half* of cabbage. Shouted galette at me.
This time I layered the bacon bits in with the cabbage along with a tired lonely leek. In the dough I used shallots, garlic, parsley and some strong cheddar that needed using. Basically (apart from the packet of bacon bits) all stuff that might well have finished in the bin in my bad old days:DIt was a big hit!! And it's quick and easy to prepare.
I wonder how many variations we can come up with:DYou never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
