A little off thread ... but a gardener told me recently that banana skins were great as compost for plants because of the potassium. Just bury them next to a plant.
So if you've found a way to eat your overripe bananas the skins don't need to go to waste either :-)0 -
My stepmother used to wrap bacon round bananas put them in a baking tin and cover with cheese sauce then pop in the oven surprisingly it tasted good0

Twink,
I love bananas with macaroni cheese, just sliced up and put over the top when served. Have to be just ripe though, not soft or over ripe. Just the texture of the banana, sweetness etc against the savoury of the cheese etc. Kids like it too.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0 -
Banana Custard if the kids are around, banana bread if they aren't

banana in a curry is also very nice. I do this regularly.0

I fell for the "big bag of bananas for a pound" deal from a market stall at the end of the day.
Yes, it was a big bag.. but the ones at the bottom were soft and black
I took 6 or 7 of the worst ones, made a date + banana loaf, flavouring it with some ginger I had left over, instead of the vanilla in the recipe.
It's dark, sweet and sticky. During this cold weather I've been cutting myself a slice, warming it in the microwave and drizzling a little cream over the top.
Comfort food at its best!0 -
Really easy one I often do with older bananas - my mother always called it "banana flip". Just put them through a blender with cold milk - 3/4 glass of milk to each banana. Then drink!0

I made a banana cake this evening from a knackered one I was just going to throw away in a desperate attempt to get my daughter to actually eat something today. She has been projectile vomiting, has a new tooth and is struggling with a cold, poor thing as had hardly eaten anything for the past few days.
Never made one before, but was inspired by this thread and guess what??
She ate a slice :T :j :T Made me feel better putting her to bed, knowing she had at least something in her tummy."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0 -
Make some toast, butter it lightly to make the banana stick, thinly slice the banana ontop & then sprinkle with cinnamonStill wish I could buy a TARDIS instead of a house!0

Can't remember how I discovered this - but banana on homemade pizza - especially with salami - is wonderful in my own wierd opinion!!!! Might have been from when I was pregnant with my first child many years ago! Mmmmmm...... feeling hungry now.Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.
