I sell art and craft supplies and also handmade items at local fayres. It won't make me a fortune but it's enough to keep me going while my daughter is still young :)

    Suzie,

I just happened to meet somebody today who does this (not privately but our County Council offers it) so I asked her about it. They are offering 6 weeks courses (I think it was for 2 hrs each) with fun & games to show parents what their children learn in maths/ numeracy at the moment. Unfortunately the interest wasn't too great.
But that's just here in Wiltshire, it might be different where you work. Why don't you approach schools with your idea and see what they think?

    Good luck
It's not that I wouldn't have been interested in such a course, but I'm not sure I'd have wanted to pay for it, plus finding a time when I'd be free to do it would have been a problem.

The level of maths my boys do now is WAY beyond me! :rotfl:

Yes, I hear this continually. You would be surprised how many parents couldn't help their children with maths homework at primary school, never mind secondary!

I might look into offering this in the future, but since I already have a waiting list for tutoring children, I think I'll stick to that for a while. I certainly won't ever be short of work teaching maths.:D

Fortunately my abilities were never tested when they were at primary school: they either had good teachers or just worked it out themselves ... Come to think of it, I don't think they EVER had maths homework then, just reading and spellings and the odd project.

Maybe there's a market for a 'how we teach maths to children these days' self-help book ... anyone?

  • We sell plastic boxes, insulated containers and we are currently setting up an online business selling boat fenders.

It is very interesting seeing what many other people do for a living especially when most of my friends work for large organisations!!!

we operate a retail business and also help others earn extra money. Sounds a bit 'salesy' but it's not and describes what we do. Cheers
  • My business is a small Classic Scooter Repairs and Spares unit with the focus on the customer and on keeping old Lambretta's and Vespa's on the road.

The website is https://www.sandyscooters.com as its based in Sandy and I took over on June 1st as the owner after having been a nurse in the NHS for nearly 20 years.

Oh and i had my first real problem customer this week who is refusing to pay an outstanding bill and obviously has anger issues. :-(

Anger issues - don't tell me.... they wanted something done extra quick because they messed up themselves, they wanted it done extra cheap because they are skin flints, and they wanted credit too?!?!?

I had one of them last week who was shocked that they had to pay £450 for a very large, very rush job that I worked into the evening to get done for their deadline, and was disgusted that she had to pay for the job before I would give it to her. The cheek of it. I might try that in Sainsburys next time I go!
