  • Remember the cash flow, people!

More businesses go under with buldging order books and poor cash flow than empty order books!

By repairing a moped, say, and giving credit you are laying yourself open to problems.

You have had to shell out for parts, tools and overheads but the job will leave you in debt until the customer pays. Depending upon what has been agreed, this could be 30, 60 or 90 days..

If too many credit account customers want jobs doing all at once you'll have no money left before you blink! How will you tide the business over until the custys pay up?

Wherever possible, organise things t'other way round. Get money up front for goods/services you provide and buy supplies on credit.

  • I'm starting a new company up delivering balanced healthy meals to customers houses twice weekly. For the same price it would cost them to buy the ingredients themselves, except they get them cooked and delivered. A family run business that have taken me on to expand into a new city, all exciting at the moment.

Actually had better add..... NOTHING TO DO WITH NETWORK MARKETING, MLM OR ANY KIND OF PYRAMID OR FRANCHISE haha, I've just been reading up for about half an hour on these kinds of businesses as I was offered a role as a distributor for Herbalife.....nah thanks.
  • don't suppose you know of any good places to contact regarding getting hold of authentic trainers in wholesale quantities?

I was until recently employed as Manager of a Charity and still hold a couple of related Board positions.

I now manage my own mentoring, training and consultancy company working with individuals, community organisations and small businesses.

In my spare time I run another company with online shop.

Brilliant thread idea this. Not only is it interesting seeing what everyone else does but I've spotted a potential supplier :D
I live in my own little world. But it's okay. They know me here.

    Hi

I am in the process of setting up a ground based aerial photography business, and this involves a telescopic mast that extends upto 50ft with a remotely operated camera. This achieves a 'birds eye' view shot of properties, hotels, golf courses, boats etc etc etc... basically anything that would look good from an elevated position. I am very excited about the prospect of running this business. Next move is to get some jobs to build a portfolio of work.
  • I'm a work at home mum selling jewellery, craft items, nappies, reusable sanitary wear, soapnuts, toiletries and a few other bits.

I love it because I can stay at home with my little girl and feel like I still have an adult life too. It's quite a juggling act though fitting everything in!

I'm a work at home mum selling learning resources for primary shcool children to encourge them to learn through play. The site has not been going very long but we a building up our customer base through visiting local schools. Our current range includeds Jolly Phonics, Oxford Reading Tree, Orchard Toys, Bedlam Cube and more, I am also looking to stock more of the reading schemes that are used in schools around the UK.
It's handy working from home as I can be at home when DD needs me.
  • I am a partner in a small firm with 3 other partners manufacturing window blinds & curtains. We are in the process of becoming a limited company at the moment so I am up to my eyes in legal paperwork!
