I run a business selling things for wedding receptions such as favours, sparklers etc... and a balloon decorating service alongside baby and Christening gifts.
We've a retail shop in our town and also sell our products through our website and Ebay.
We started in April 2005 and 2.5 years of hard work later and many mistakes (advertsing, banks accounts, trusting customers etc.........) we are starting to see the benefits!:D

Both my OH and I work fulltime but have our own businesses.
I have my own business selling speciality treats and ingredients on a door to door basis in my local area.
OH runs heritage and remembrance events as well as markets and trading events for niche hobbies - one example being live role playing.0 -

me and my partner run an airport transfer business
Now thats a service that I find invaluable. In the past I have got family to begrudingly get me to the airport and pick us up. I have also got airport minibus's and had a nightmare when we arrived at the pickup point seconds after the schedule to find the bus had already gone for the next two hours.
Nowadays I insist on a proper door to door transfer. Worth every penny and means I can relax before the holiday starts!Gordon Brown ate my hamster0 -

that is what we provide!!! we are there on the dot, always ask the important but dumb questions.....( got you tickets, money, passports etc as you will be surprised how many people forget them!!!) and we are there waiting as they come through the arrival doors at the airport. We dont talk the hind legs off the customers (unlike some businesses that i know). we make polite conversation only if the client wishes to talk, (alot dont after a night flight) and we always collect the luggage from the door and return it to the door also... OH AND MORE IMPORTANTLY WE PROVIDE SERVICE WITH A SMILE---IT DOESN'T COST ANYTHING0 -
Myself and my business partner are in the process of setting up a business offering private educational services. Like many others on here we are on a very tight start up budget but luckily have managed to obtain a grant to help us with start up costs.
We're launching in 5 weeks and have spent the last 2 months getting everything ready including legals, website design (work in progress!), incorporation, business plan development and lots more. Learnt so much in a short space of time and has been hard work on top of full time jobs but nothing in life comes easy and we're hoping the hard work will pay off in the long run.
How do you put a website link into your profile then?0 -
Hi, my OH has just set up a business providing curriculum support in schools - bought a huge inflatable 'dome' that is a 360 degree cinema inside, NASA images of stars and dinos and a brain; class sits inside whilst he teaches them. Only been trading for a month - slow but steady start. Learned a huge amount about marketing etc and still very nervous about it all!!!Thanks to this fantastic site and it's amazing people, we have paid over £63, 000 off - just over half way!!!:T THANK YOU:T0

I am a maths and science tutor. Will never make big bucks because of the limit to the hours I can work (obviously can't tutor kids whilst they are at school!) But I am loving having time to myself during the day for the first time in my working life :T and my kids love it that for the first time ever I can take them to school and pick them up each day. I am just about making the same money that I was when I taught in school, but am less stressed and happier!
I am thinking about offering a tuition service for parents that want to brush up maths skills or want to understand the current methods in maths so they can help their kids with homework etc..... not sure if there would be any interest....?Save £12k in 2021: Jan £1834.40, Feb £1692.810 -

Suzie,
I just happened to meet somebody today who does this (not privately but our County Council offers it) so I asked her about it. They are offering 6 weeks courses (I think it was for 2 hrs each) with fun & games to show parents what their children learn in maths/ numeracy at the moment. Unfortunately the interest wasn't too great.
But that's just here in Wiltshire, it might be different where you work. Why don't you approach schools with your idea and see what they think?
Good luckHe who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.
