Because I'm almost having a panic attack over this, even though my legal adviser says I'm in the right, and everyone here has been saying it, and I've done everything right and correctly.

So why ask in the first place?

You should have just said get it sorted and I'll pay.

Not yet. All the correspondence has been done via email.

And if he rejects your offer? Will you then offer more?

The OP has a text confirming the air con was working, along with assurance from an air con specialist that this was not a bodge to sell the car. It's just one of these things, like having a puncture on the way home.

Yeah, maybe offering some cash out of complete nicety would be a gesture, however as soon as the muppet started the ' I'll take you to court ' !!!!! I'd be fighting them all the way.

That's your chioce. I'd be happy to take you to court. I've the time, I'm sure I could equally find an expert, I also wouldn't tell you, and it would be money I would write off if I lost. If you have the same view, fair enough. I think the op is probably more sensible than both of us put together.

Because some people are like mikey72 - spineless, I am afraid to say, and they'll back down under pressure even when they're in the right.

Making an offer is a disaster in my opinion. It could be seen as an acceptance that you ARE responsible, so now his claim for the full sum, whilst still weak, has been made stronger. It'll also give him more confidence to keep persuing you because you've given in. Telling him to sod off and do one from the start would've been better than the situation as it is now.

I find you seem to be very tough, when you're standing at the back, egging on others. You also appear to have a poor understanding of how the legal system works. At least the op had the sense to get decent advice.

Before giving advice I place myself in that situation and decide what I would do.
No doubt you do the same, and in all threads like this, you always advocate backing down, whereas I advocate sticking up for yourself IF you are in the right, and the OP is.

I've laughed off your comment about me having a poor legal understanding because of who that comment came from!

And you're an expert are you?

Where you you suggest the op gets advice from if they have further problems? They are going against the legal advice they have had already.

Actually I'm not. The legal adviser said I could offer a reasonable amount as a good will gesture, as long as I said it was a good will gesture and not accepting any liability.
