How is that if it a settlement without admission of liability?

I think it's time to stop rising to the bait, just listen to the real legal advice you have, not the airchair bravado, and let this thread eventually die.

So in your honest opinion do you think this would have ended up in court? And if it did do you think the OP would lose even though they had a text from the buyer stating the air con was working fine after purchase and that an air con specialist had confirmed that it could not be botched for sale?

Fair play to the OP for taking the easy way out and paying a % to get the buyer off his case but in my opinion this was just letting the bully win.

At the end of the day it is up to the OP to decide how he wants to deal with this issue and he has made his decision. The OP might well consider that the constant adverse comment about his decision by other members also constitutes bullying behaviour. Time to cut the OP some slack now that he has made his decision.

I think I posted all the way through, I would have gone to court quite happily, and I would have expected a good chance of winning. The op took legal advice that also said there was a chance. As to bullying, most of it appeared to be coming from the posters on here, who can't understand any other view but their own apparently, and have now taken to hurling abuse at the op. And if you don't let the facts get in your way, you'll find no one was prepared to make any written submision on the air con to support the op.

I think hurling abuse is a little exaggerated.

I'm sure some company in the UK would supply a statement if some real effort went into looking for it.

So you're quite happy to accuse the op of not making an effort, and don't think that's abusive? What do you think he's been doing?

I don't think that is abusive no.

The OP stated that two companies refused to give a written statement. We don't know who they were, or who even said no. A grease monkey on the shop floor wouldn't be allowed to give a statement, not to say that management of the company wouldn't give it.
