Sold a car, air con stopped working, buyer complaints

I would expect a genuine complainant to get a diagnosis from a garage and send you the quote.
A generic solicitor 'give me my money back' letter wastes everybody's time.
thats why you send them back un-opened marked No Contract, return to sender.
Will knock the wind right out of the sail when the solicitor calls up to explain thats your £40 gone...And they have not even read it. :rotfl:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Ok, back to the OP.
I think we all pretty much agree on the following...
If the OP was aware of problems with the air-con then the advert was mis-representing and the OP might be liable to pay for it to be fixed. If this happened via court and the OP lost then the OP would be liable for the other side's costs.
If the OP wasn't aware of any problems with the air-con then the adveryt was acurate (at least to the best of the OP's knowledge) and the car was sold as seen and the OP shouldn't be liable.
I guess then only question for someone more mechanically minded than me would be are the other side likely to be able to produce evidence to suggest the problem was known about previously when it wasn't - i.e. might there be a miscarriage of justice?0 -
Has anyone reported this thread to get all the crap removed? As usual from the same suspects!
OP please keep us up to date with Hondas findings0 -

Your point
"SOGA does not cover private sales UNLESS the buyer can show the seller has deliberately falsely advertised the vehicle."
is WRONG.
Thats what i was correcting.
That statement is incorrect. The car must be as described - there is no onus on the buyer to prove the seller deliberately falsely advertised the vehicle.
According to you. I'll interpret it my way, you interpret it yours and we'll live happily ever after.
After all that, I believe the car in this case was as described at the point of sale i.e. had working air con.
As I've said a few time on the thread, maybe the buyer isn't using it correctly. Having the windows or the external intake open won't help.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

What do you mean by that, surely the external intake would need to be open otherwise where is the airconditioned air coming from?0 -

Uhm... the air-con unit?
Air-con is always more efficient with the recirc function on so that the cold air recirculates around the inside of the car rather than being mixed with warm air from outside.0 -

Whats with the Uhm, it was a genuine question
Well i never knew that, I have been using aircon for last 15 years or so doing 800 miles a week and using air from outside, and all my cars aircon has worked fine during that time. I dont think I would want to sit in a car for 4 hours ish with recirc air on all the time.
would you drive with aircon on for hours at a time on recirc?
I also use aircon in winter to demist (its quicker),admittedly on recirc at first but as soon as I can from outside otherwise windows steam up0 -

I never use mine on re-circ. It gets too stuffy after a while.0 -

After a little google research I now understand that the air will cool quicker on recirc as long as the air inside the car isnt hotter than outside (which it maybe in the summer) and that the air will get colder I guess its obvious really just never thought about it, other than that it isnt a problem and probably better for you (more oxygen) to have it on the external intake0
