Want to stop consumer lifestyles cold calling you? Here's how...

So after months of receiving between 3 and 6 calls a day from this 'company' and I use that term very loosely, I got fed up of them not listening to my requests to remove us from their database. I did a bit of digging around and found out a bit of information about them.
As we are all aware, they call from overseas but actually are based in the uk, so are able to flout the tps. [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]
Here's what I did...
I phoned the number and spoke to a very polite gentleman on the other end of the phone. I explained the situation (being tps registered, that they were the parent company and that I was receiving lots of phone calls a day)
The man on the other end of the phone was very pleasant until I Stated that the company was flouting the tps rules and I would be making a formal complaint to oftel. I told him I had documented every phone call for the last 4 months complete with numbers and had found out that their company was the parent company for consumer lifestyles.
He then backtracked and tried to tell me that it had nothing to do with them. I stated that I had looked their details up on companies house and knew it was them and to remove my details from their system with immediate effect.
I did have to give my name and telephone number but I thought as they already have it it wasn't going to make it any worse.
I did state that if I received so much as one more phone call from them I would be immediately submitting a complaint to the relevant authorities.
That was 2 weeks ago. So far.... Not a peep.

How long did the phonecall last?
Neat trick, making money to stop pestering you. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Hi,
The phone all lasted about 3 minutes. We have inclusive calls with our phone provider and 0844 calls are free so cost me nothing.0 -

It's extraordinarily unusual (I've never heard of it happening) to get 0844 calls free.
Since the callee gets an amount per minute from each call the telephone provider would be making a loss each time such a number was called. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Well perhaps I'm wrong about the 0844 calls being free. I don't know 100% for sure. My apologies. I was just trying to help other people stop these nuisance calls.
Sorry again.0 -

No need to apologise.
It's not a problem so long as people realise they are being charged. If it's only a 3-4 min call it may be worth the cost if you are being seriously pestered. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
It definitely was. These people are such a nuisance and do not listen to repeated requests to remove from the list. Not answering withheld/international calls is not an option for us due to family overseas.
I just really hope I never receive a phone call from them again. If I did have to pay a bit to have it done then I don't mind at all.0 -
Good to hear your experience LiverBeef. From a another "Newbie":)0

I too am plagued by calls from Consumer Lifestyles, despite being part of TPS. With these, and other similar calls, I have taken to putting them on hold and leaving the phone off the hook for hours at a time. I have a naive belief that this will make one of their lines unusable until I hang up, thereby stopping them for a short time doing the same thing to someone else. When I cancel the call, it does tell me that it has lasted for x number of hours and y minutes. Does anyone know whether this is in fact the case, or am I wasting my time? BTW, it doesn't inconvenience me to have the phone out of action - if it's not Consumer Lifestyles or the like, then it will just be my sister-in-law ;-)0

DLG is the trading name of Data Locator Group Ltd, company no: 6742075, a subsidiary of DM plc
Registered in England at Green Heys, Walford Road, Ross-on-Wye, HR9 5DB.I called the 01925 number and spoke to a guy there he said they have added several New call centers and that could be why , but he was interested to hear that most of the operators were hanging up on me.
He also said my name wasn't in the system on my last name.. instead on a name form the previous owner almost 25 years ago.
7 days to remove me...
I told him if i had another day of 12 calls i would be contacting Watch dog and putting a formal complaint to Oftel and i would be filing harassment charges against the company.
And now we play the waiting game... good luck everyone!0
