  • I have been with Ovivo since May 2012 and have seen them increase the minutes and data over the past 2 years.

This week Martin Mentioned them on ITV daybreak :-)

I have recommended them to people work and they are happy. We have a really good signal on Vodaphone network.
  • Wish I'd known how slow the company is. Ordered a sim last Wednesday, still haven't got it, and my pac code runs out tomorrow. Every other sim has come within 3 days - they took the money quick enough.

I've seen plenty of dodgy ads already.

Ads which have the fake "you're infected with virus, tap to remove" and the less mischevous "you have 1 new message".

These are all banned on Google Adwords, and Bing adcenter but seem to be present in other networks.

These ads are likely to be a bit dodgy. Ovivo serves the full spectrum of ads. Including remarketing shopping ads where if you've visited amazon to look at a product, that product will keep reappearing on your browser for 14 days.

Regarding slow internet. I guess ovivo had to pick vodaphone probably because that was the only network who were willing to drop their wholesale prices down so low.

I like to think vodaphone is a sane network and realises the trend is now towards mobile data. Perhaps they'll get their act together and fix their 3G network. It might just happen.

In tech it's always the underdogs that usurp the market leaders. All the other networks are upgrading to 4G. Vodafone might just usurp them and roll out 5G.

It happens a lot. range rover dominated the 4x4 market for a long time. Their reliability was abysmal and service costs were high. People just asumed a big heavy 4x4 needs parts replacing because of it's size and weight yada yada yada.

Then BMW, Porsche knock it out of the park with their cars. Both of which are gazillion times more reliable than range rover.

Sports car specialists beat a 4x4 brand at it's own game on their first attempt!

p.s. just ported over to ovivo, I have no qualms about their viability.

Something I should mention is that the ovivo plans aren't for life. You effectively renew your freedom "contract" each month. Check the contract expiry date.

If they run into trouble they can just cease the freedom contracts or change them and charge £2.50 per month for them or something.

I think that's far more likely to happen then for them to just fold without warning.

e.g. "renewal" and not "next billing date"

Same here, never use data because my phone is a stupid & not smart one, just calls & text

Proving only that Ovivo is clearly only suitable for people who want to make basic phone calls and send texts for free but is not at all suitable for use with a Smartphone.

All this of course also comes at the price of having your email Inbox regularly innundated with a large nunber of spam marketing emails from Ovivo.

As to the nature of people who in 2014 think it is smart to avoid using a smartphone out and about in an era when Directory Enquiry Calls alone cost over a pound a minute I leave it to others here to draw their own conclusions.

I better stop using Ovivo on my smartphone then given the indisputable proof. Where are my spam emails from Ovivo?

As to the nature of those that may choose not to have a smartphone, burn them I say.

the internet is usable and fast enough to do basic stuff like look up phone numbers and pull info from the web. Just not fast enough to stream youtube videos.

How much data do you use on cellular anyway? I predominantely use wifi at home or my home office. rarely ever use internet while out - if I do it's just for looking up phone numbers, places etc.

A bit difficult when Vodafone just paid millions for a 4G licence and has no licence to offer any sort of 5G service.

    Agree with you on that.

Since Barclaycard took over my Egg Money Mastercard I have been wondering how much longer it would be before they reduced the 1% cashback benefit we have gone on enjoying on our Visa spend.

Well its taken them 18 months to worsen our conditions but now finally they have announced that as from May they will create a Duo American Express and Visa card on the same account and that we will only go on getting 1% cashback where we can use the Amex card. At retailers who only take Visa or Mastercard and not Amex (the majority numerically by a long way) we will only get 0.5%

Given the customer base Ovivo have one could expect them to in due course bring in a £5 charge for free calls and texts and then may be £2.50 on top to get the free 500MB of data. They would be crazy not to put most of the charge on the calls side since it has become quite obvious that most of their customers are not serious users of data.

I bet the extra publicity on Daybreak by :money:has made them a little busy?
