What isn't? An unmarried step-parent can just walk out any time they want with no impunity whatsoever. So exactly what is "not fair to the children"?

What is not fair is that many single parents and potential step-parents can't afford to move in together, or would find it very difficult financially. As a result millions of kids grow up with no Dad.

But we're getting a bit off the point....

Way off the point, I suspect you have a bit of an axe to grind there. ;)

Its not fair to the children precisely because of your first point, you want to avoid that at all lengths.

You need to be incredibly sure when you have kids.No child needs other adults coming in and out like that,it's not right.

And potentially having lots of different 'dads' throughout their childhood would be good would it?

Things are different when their are children involved and you have to be more careful.

I have told him that I won't ever have a joint account with him as I am building my credit rating and his !!!! one will affect mine (I THINK that is true). One good thing is that he KNOWS he is gonna have to pull his socks up which is making him think - slow progress? :D

Money isn't the real issue, its just the thing that's exposing the real issues.

He's irresponsible, childish and selfish, from what you've told us.

Apparently your partner isn't willing to sacrifice any of his money for his lover/partner.

Yes because you are not happy now never mind when you're working your b*m off to subsidise his lifestyle.
