Halifax have the worst customer service of all banks.

  • Hmm this is a little worrying as I've just had my application for a Halifax current account accepted! Hopefully it'll all go smoothly and all my direct debits and standing orders will be transferred successfully and then get my £100 in a couple of months.

My only other experience with the halifax was as a lad when my mum opened a savings account for me and gave me a pound every two weeks to put in the bank, I thought it was great fun :)
I am not really an Eskimo. I can hear what you're thinking... "Inuit!"
  • In my experience the halifax has been poor!

I had an appointment recently to review my mortgage.. the appt was for 9am Saturday. I arrived hoem from work on the Friday to an answerphone message telling me that they had cancelled my mortgage review appointment because they cant offer me a better deal and it woudl be a waste of my time to go and see them.

So needless to say I went to a competitor and I am moving my mortageg because I have found a better deal!! (wasnt that difficult to find a better deal actually)

    Numpty's!!!

I'm sorry, but what's poor about that?

They rang you (alright, they didn't give you much notice, but at least they rang) to stop you wasting your time the next day, and they even gave you a valid reason for cancelling.

Bear in mind that the topic of the thread is about customer service, not their products. :)

They only offer the good deals to new customers ,so become some one else's new customer ,when will HBOS realise that they need to maintain their customer base ,suck you in with a eye catching deal, then offer only good deals to new customers.
Ultimately this is all about how they treat customers,no need for the poster to leave if all HBOS 's mortgages had been available, but no !!!some are reserved for sucking in new customers.

I think the banks must have pretty unreasonable expectations of their employees too. They advertise in our local (free) paper and gush about how they expect potential candidates to be customer focused, flexible etc. etc. and then offer a salary package which can only be described as laughable.

+ Unlike some banks, Halifax current accounts are FREE and most include an incentive (moneyback/high interest etc).
+ Halifax have AGENCIES in outlying areas meaning that you don't always have to get into town to do your transactions.

On the down side there are often long queues in the branches, but they are trying to tackle this by introducing more deposit machines.

The only bank that is more convenient than this is Alliance and Leicester with which I can do all my transactions at the post office at the end of my street.
Well done to both of them.
  • I have never had a problem with any bank. But I have been using online banking for just over 6 years. In that time I have, or have had bank accounts with:

    Smile (opened 2000, closed 2006)
    HBSC (student account opened 2001)
    Natwest (student account opened 2002)
    Alliance and Leicester (opened 2006)
    Halifax (opened 2007)

I do as much as possible online. If I need to ring them up, I have never had a problem. I opened my halifax account online, then took my ID into my local branch last weekend took about 10 mins (5 mins queueing, 5 mins showing ID and signing the declaration + proof of signature).

Id say worst so far was alliance and leicester... only because gettting through to an actual person without a "phone pin" is a pain.

:) On the positive side I would like to give Halifax credit for their new website, very user friendly ,now will they please use the same expertise and make customer services and staff attitudes customer friendly.
I suspect that it is easier to throw money at a new website design than it is to change a culture.
They have customer service trained staff at a base as you enter the branch, who are usually good but over-worked ,so if you need help speak to a cashier who are more interested in selling products and meeting targets and they refer you to some-one behind the scenes who wants to sell you more products .The conclusion is that whilst the front desk staff are good they are over-worked and the cashiers under-trained.Whilst in my RBS branch ask a cashier and they deal with your query, not referring you to a trained person, they are all brought into the act.

I don't think this was bad service at all - they informed you that they couldn't offer you any different, and stopped you wasting your time visiting them
