I'd have to say No as I've been treated appallingly by Natwest some years ago ...

I was treated quite badly by HSBC a few years ago, but Halifax have really taken the biscuit: I went in to open an account (I had an appointment), I was told to wait for the advisor to call me in. I was waiting for 45 minutes with no reassurance that I would be seen shortly, nor any apology when I was finally called in.

The advisor was rude and talked down to me as if I knew nothing! She even explained that, as I was opening a student account, the overdraft woudn't cost me anything because that's what interest-free meant... and then explained what a credit card was!!

I still have the account, as it has a £2k interest-free overdraft that I've got in an IceSave account... as soon as my student days are over, it's bye-bye Halifax! :D

I also say No. I have been with Halifax for ages with no problems. First Direct treated me very badly a while ago.

I've always found Halifax fast and pleasant and very understanding.

They even refunded my bank charges without me asking when I made a call to them on an unrelated query :)

Techno geek - people are constantly complaining that they 'didn't know' and 'but nobody explained' and 'it was in the small print'

Do you not think that the advisor at the Halifax was trying to make sure you understood the 'jargon'. If you are opening a student account i will assume you are 18-21 so they probably assumed you had not much experience with banks and the like.

Is this poll just for High Street banks? If not, no-one has mentioned ICICI yet ! Surely we're not saying Halifax is worse than than ICICI for customer service.

No option for 'don't know'? I have 2 accounts (3 if you include the closed credit card) with them but have never had the need to contact CS beyond closing the card....
