Halifax have the worst customer service of all banks.

No for me and most of the time it also down to individual circumstances. I think a new poll should be started as to which high street banks and a separate one for building societies has the worst customer services.0

To be fair, unless you've held bank accounts with every single bank going, its hard to be able to say with authority as to which is the worst for customer service.0

Do you not think that the advisor at the Halifax was trying to make sure you understood the 'jargon'. If you are opening a student account i will assume you are 18-21 so they probably assumed you had not much experience with banks and the like.
Good point - I agree that some people can be quite dense when it comes to the in's and out's of banking, but considering I asked about credit scoring internally or externally for an overdraft increase, and what their criteria for applying for a student credit card were, I think Halifax were taking the p!ss... both questions were asked prior to their explanation - I mean, come on!!!! Talking down to customers is a good way to lose them, nuff said.
However, my neighbour (also a student) assumed that Barclays wouldn't charge him for an unauthorised overdraft because he has a student account! He now has over £100 of bank charges to reclaim, but won't follow my advice (based on what I've learned from this site, and others like it) because he can't believe I'm actually right, the arrogant b*****d! Bit of a nonsense poll really - unless you've had experience of quite a few banks how can you comment with any degree of accuracy?Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

hi all, new member here, concerning the halifax (alone) i have been with them for over 29 years now and up untill they joined forces with BOS (about 12-18 months ago) the customer care was great, but now it seems to be customer dont really care about you at all. As long as you are paying a regular salary into your account and paying their wages they arent botheredhalifax bank claimed £4803 (£5863.88 inc%) paid £6143.29 :j
CapitalOne card claiming £478 (£609.18 inc%) paid £689.71 :j
Citicards claiming £700 (£888.23 inc%)
halifax bank (account 2) claiming £543.15 (£564.09 inc%) put on hold due to OFT outcome0 -
I have banked with the Halifax for about 10 years now and am in the process of moving my account to Abbey. Have never had any real complaints about the Halifax other than the fact there is no lee-way on anything. Changing banks now due to the fact that Halifax are withdrawing the majority of counter services for the account I hold. I tried to up-grade to a current account and they rejected my application so I've moved my savings account elsewhere and am in the process of moving my 2 cardcash accounts. Will then concentrate on paying off my credit card and will have no further dealings with them.0

I wouldn't trust the Halifax with my banking arrangements after the total mess caused when trying to switch to them. They can keep their £100 !0

I do have a lot of bank accounts to compare. Cannot say Halifax have ever damaged me but somehow everything you do with them is more slow more drawn out more complicated more hassle and a bit harder to understand, e.g. getting the right product or any at all, e.g. their security checks and their ID verifications longer and less efficient than others. On the rare occasions I go to my branch more often than not I give up because of the long long wait to do anything. This is despite their having moved into bigger premises, the previous one was comically inadequate, crummy and bursting-at-seams with nevertheless a long queue outside. If you have no experience then refrain from comment .
I thought they were no longer officially called Halifax but HBOS, however I just looked up and there is no trace of this on their logo etc. For the private client this hookup seems to have made little difference, there seems little synergy, maybe some for the business client or for High Finance? Altogether for good or bad Halifax in its style seems still to carry the heritage and weight of its origins as a provincial Building Society which it has never quite emerged from.Sorry my posts so long - not time write shorter ones.0
