hi i gave up on 02.11.2012 and I could either murder a fag or someone but i will be strong
Hi sexyshark and a very warm welcome! Very well done in having stayed free for 2 whole days!!!! :T It mightn't sound much to a non-smoker, but to all us ex-smokers we know darn well that 2 days is a HUGE amount, so you've really done yourself proud!
Forget murdering anyone - that just wouldn't be nice now would it?!!Forget murdering a fag too! Keep going on and taking it a day at a time. We CAN ALL do this, you included, so don't ever give into thoughts that just one puff/fag won't hurt as it'll have you right back where you started!
What means, if any, are you using to stop? I'll send you a PM shortly, there are quite a few tips to help in there. Meanwhile.....
Try the Quitting Pledge below each day (or whenever necessary), many have said it helps a great deal.Quitters Pledge"Today I promise not to smoke any cigarettes, tomorrow - IF I wish - I may do."Renew the pledge every morning on waking. This helps in not making quitting feel as though you're planning something lifelong, it helps trick the mind in taking it all one day at a time. The lifelong part you determine for yourself when you're ready.
Join in with us as it'll help you stay free. A good idea to pop the time and cash saved on your siggy.
All best wishes and hopefully see you soon.

Well done on urging her, or him (!!) on stesilc and VERY well done to you on having quit for a good long while so far!!! :T Keep going as you've been doing as whichever way you're going by is certainly working for you.
Come on back and let us know how you're doing, not only will it help you but it'll also motivate others.
Sue x
Where are you determined, Fergie, Hannah and all?? I'm hoping your absence means you're doing well and are able to go it alone, but it would be nice to let us know.
To all others keeping an eye on the thread, stop smoking just as soon as you can, there is life beyond fags, honest!! If you're fearful of stopping, please don't be as it's amazing how quickly you find that you never needed them - not to survive - it's just pure habit. Try it for a day and see what I mean...see how you get on. Use the Quitters Pledge above and see just how well you can do. We're here for you!

awwww thanks for the shout out Sue! I'm still trucking, it was my 2 month milestone on Saturday. I did think of you guys but as we are renovating our house at the moment so all of my spare time is spent stripping wallpaper, tiles off of walls and giggling about how ill equipped we are at this stuff!
I am finding, as always, that it is easy is some ways and really hard in others. Like sitting in the lounge on a Saturday morning with a cup of coffee. But other than that its really easy! I, like others, worry about the weight but I have just weighed myself today and after 2 months I have put on 2lbs! So it really is psychological rather than literal!
Welcome sexyshark good for you, keep busy for the first few days and you will be fine, come on here and let us all know how you are doing and when you need a bit of moral support, I'll try to check in each day just in case.
Also welcome to stesilc, by my reckoning we're at about the same point or maybe you quit just before me.
To everyone else I wish you a happy & healthy life xDF as at 30/12/16

Hiya determined, that's FANTASTIC NEWS!!!!!! :T:j:T:j:T Just think of the good you're already doing yourself.
WELL DONE on that very minimal weight gain, that really is terrific, though in all honesty, the way you speak, you live sensibly, especially since stopping. I know what you mean about the different, sometimes daft, triggers, but the further way we get the less they hit in...less they last too.
I'll leave you to giggle away with your renovations, have fun and just think how wonderful it'll look afterwards!
Enjoy the work, D and enjoy getting healthier!

Excellent RFTA!!!!! So, that's about 3 weeks which is absolutely marvellous!! :T:T If you like liquorice or anything similar then use some (not too much) of that to nibble away on...or try nuts..any sort. Nuts are really good to serve the purpose you're wanting, another thing is sunflower hearts either of the things I've written about fill the hand to mouth gap; so to do carrots and celery and you can do them ready and put them in a dish in the fridge to grab when you need them.
Things to 'play' with are a key ring or a piece of very soft rubber. If all else fails then have a pen in your hand to fiddle with, you can also nibble it. Think around such things, but please don't resort to you know whats! I'd hate to see you lured back after having done so very well. Onward and upward, RFTA, you're doing amazingly! Be proud as you've plenty to pride yourself on! :j

Hi everyone! Just recovering from keyhole surgery on my shoulder - long awaited op :j
4 yrs in January since I quit smoking. In the old smoking days, the thought of an operation/needles etc would have driven me to chain smoking! It just never occurred to me to smoke. Like I said last time, you truly do reach the stage where your automatic reaction to a stressor is NO LONGER a ciggy!
I read someone's post (a new quitter) saying they saw someone smoking and envied them. As someone said to me early on in my quit " smokers don't *get* to smoke, they *have* to smoke". It is so true - they are addicted! Just think how wonderful it will be when you are free of those chains!!
See you again soon, Pam x0 -

Here you are again, Pam, along with your words of wisdom - and oh how right the above sentence is too! Since stopping smoking I can honestly say I've never once envied a smoker, I just feel so very sorry for them, and so thrilled I was able to turn my back on that awful addiction. :grinheart
I do hope all is well with you now, the shoulder too, if not that it soon will be. I had a frozen shoulder (after a fall) 'wrenched' back into gear last year and it's perfectly ok now.
Please keep on popping back, Pam, as it truly is a joy to see you even if it's just to say 'hello'. I won't say any words about January now, but they did not go unnoticed!
Wonderful news on you having reached 3 years and 10 months!!!!!:T:T:T Sorry I was unable to come on here last night, but after being on the SPC thread I just had to cut and run for tea.
You take care!

Thanks Sue :T for your fantastic words of encouragement as always.
Unfortunately not allowed any raw veg or anything like nuts atm but will certainly put them on the list for when I canI read someone's post (a new quitter) saying they saw someone smoking and envied them. I totally get that envious part atmbut also the other bit about "having" to ..... was at the hospital for more treatment on Thursday and there was the inevitable gaggle of smokers outside, in their pjs, hooked up to drips etc and looking awful but still puffing away ..... a couple of weeks ago, that would've been me too!

I think it was me who said I felt jelly of smokers, but I can honestly say - rising I am talking to you! - at just over 2 months I no longer feel jealous of smokers. I hate the smell if I walk into it, when my co-workers come in from a smoking break they really smell horrible! It does go I promise, I am really happy I no longer smoke and only think about it either in moments of huge stress or at random moments when I just think "oooooo I could smoke right now"
Keep trucking and you'll get there x
