Hi Kiwi, lovely to see you!
Who could ever grumble about weight again given those stats above!! I'm so glad you didn't go any further/higher in years with how much life was lost the older one was!
No matter what our ages, the main thing is - that we've quit or that we quit and quit soon....and if we then stay that....way the greater the chances for us all!!!! :j
Thanks for that, Kiwi and VERY, VERY WELL DONE on 650 days of life regained!!!!!! :T:T:T Love to NZ, to you too. See you soon.
Sue x
Please, everyone, do take note and don't wait any longer - it's just not worth it.

*pops head in door in panic*
Hi guys, hoping a few words of wisdom from you fantastic stoppers will spur me on ...... bit of background - have been thinking / wanting to stop for ages but totally unexpectedly went cold turkey 15 days ago due to a hospital admission unfortunately (ie not planned, didn't have any aids in the house, no "last cig" etc etc)
Anyway, now I've got through the errrr supposedly hard bit, really want to stay stopped - but struggling a bit now I'm back home again.
Weight gain is a bit of a concern for me (especially as also now put on huge doses of steriods which always make me gain weight anyway) but trying to forget that just now & worry about it once I'm a) well again and b) have kicked the cravings.
Suggestions welcomed please:) I do have an e-cig (which I have been meaning to try to cut down/stop) but now I've got through the first couple of weeks without it, I'd really like not to resort to that if I can help it.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

ah the lovely rising we meet again! Excellent news on the quitting, go girl! I think you have done the hard bit now its for the maintaining stage. Funny me and my oh were just discussing this yesterday. Mainly I think its really easy to stop - because that's what you do literally! - but every now and then I get the thought/feeling that I REALLY could smoke. For me I guess I just need to be aware that for a while (and maybe a couple of years) that thought will come and go, just guard myself from acting on it.
At the early stages for you I would suggest having a hobby that you can get lost in that uses your hands and distracts your mind - sewing, knitting, gardening - although its getting cold! Read through the previous threads
Re the weight gain, sipping water, snacking on fruit and celery, carrots, take the dogs out for more walks! I do think with the weight it really is we use eating things as a way of distracting ourselves and that's what puts the weight on. also I am finding I am having loads of cups of coffee as I don't like cold things in the cold weather. So what I'm going to do is take some sugar free ribena to work have have hot ribena rather than milk and sugared coffee.
Anyway those are my ramblings, I hope they are useful to you! Lovely to see you and hope youa re feeling proud of quitting best thing you can do for you health - see kiwi's post on Friday :TDF as at 30/12/16

Hi rising from the ashes and a very warm welcome!
Many congratulations on how far you've got all by yourself!!!! :T You've really done so well, now keep on going a day at a time. I'll send you a PM in a moment, it has lots of helpful tips, though determined has covered many very helpful points all of which are a huge help!
One thing I have to add is: Please don't resort to the E-cig! This thread is purely for the purpose of stopping smoking without the use of hand-held devices, so please carry on as you are as using one of those could even see you back to smoking again as you're only a step away from the real thing!! You don't need that and you don't need an e-cig as you're doing terrifically with cold turkey! :j
Try the Quitting Pledge below each day (or whenever necessary), many have said it helps a great deal.Quitters Pledge"Today I promise not to smoke any cigarettes, tomorrow - IF I wish - I may do."Renew the pledge every morning on waking. This helps in not making quitting feel as though you're planning something lifelong, it helps trick the mind in taking it all one day at a time. The lifelong part you determine for yourself when you're ready.
Please really stop and believe how marvellously you're doing and give yourself a HUGE pat on the back! :grinheart All the money you save could be stored in a pot/jar to keep you reminded of all you've NOT smoked and what you can now do with your savings. Reward yourself, either now or in the future by treating yourself to something really lovely - because, by golly have you deserved it!!!!
Take things easy and get yourself fit, then exercise as much as is possible; meanwhile keep yourself and your mind as busy as possible, it'll help you no end.
Sue x
Brilliant words of wisdom, determined! You really are going so well - be proud, strong and - keep going!

Thanks Sue - I do like the Quitters Pledge ..... brings back memories in a way, I did give up for a while a few years ago and, as long as I had cigs in the house I was fine (as knew I could have one if I had to) but if I was somewhere where I didn't have any handy, then I found it much harder!
Have put the e-cig & other bits & bobs into an old handbag and buried in the bottom of an unused basket ...... hopefully that should keep me happy!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Very well done on the last paragraph, RFTA!!
Keep up with what you've been doing and remember - if you can go for over a fortnight by yourself - you can most certainly keep at it AND get through the harder parts with plenty of support here!
As I've said earlier, keep your fingers and mind busy as that alone helps you enormously. Start up a new hobby or bring an old one to life..knitting, crochet, sewing......anything at all that you enjoy!
You'll get there! Be strong and determined - I was!
Best wishes and hugs!

quick details
started 25 years ago 40 a day
it is financially killing me have to stop
trying champix stop date tomorrow
worked out why i smoke its a comfort thing
also bordom - going to get motivated gym and try a new hobby
basically need to change life0 -
A very warm welcome, ravendri. Well done in realising it's got to stop before it's killing you in more that just the financial way! You've chosen a good method to stop by as there aren't many people who stop via using Champix that take it up again.
How far into using Champix are you? If you've only recently started with it you'll soon find it puts you right off fags altogether.
Stick to your guns and get motivated with the gym, a hobby, old or new, to immerse yourself into as well. The busier you keep yourself the better you'll manage to kick this awful habit. You'll very soon find that you wonder how on earth you made so much time in the day to puff away at fags, but at least you'll be doing far better things with your time!
Another tip, if you can afford it, is to pop the money saved into a jar or a pot, it's great incentive and you'll soon be finding plenty of other things to spend it on, but for now keep it by to motivate you - then have a spurge with it - as you'll deserve a treat!! :j
All best wishes in kicking the habit once and for all, and remember, you're really not giving up anything....only gaining in life and money! :grinheart
