Today is my 30th without smoking. :j:j:j:j
It gets so much easier if your at the beginning stick at it, use the pledge, a few weaks of stress is definatly worth it. Imagine how stressfull it woud be telling your family you have throat cancer....
This may sound harsh but the consequences of smoking are and i'm kicking myself for every getting addicted to the damn things

Hi Everyone.
I gave up in April (went cold turkey). Yesterday I bought one of those fake cigarettes. I don't crave a cigarette, but I just need something to do with my hands.
I have put on just over 2 stone and it is depressing me. I realised that when ever I have dieted in the past, I simply smoked more. I sat there last night with this thing in my hand and for the first time in months I didn't raid the biscuit tin.
I know in someways it is a step backwards, but if holding a bit of plastic is going to help me loss this weight I don't care.
I don't think I will ever smoke again as just the smell of a real one makes me gag.0 -
what a dreich day here, keeping myself busy in the itchen its a kinda steam sponge pudding day today , that'll please DS after school
good to "see" ya hannah 30 days in is great am so pleased for you , if ever tempted by the blasted things , just think on ALL the good you have achieved by quitting and finally you are in control of your life ,you will be feeling that bit wealthier too
Now then ownmyown , forgive me but I am gonna give you a verbal kick up the bum ...what are you thinking of .... you have been stopped since APRIL That is amazing and cold turkey too
crush that bloomin fake fag and throw it right away you certainly dont need it
You can and will deal with the weight gain and fags fake or not are NOt going to be the solution
Firstly focus on all the good freeing yourself from fags has brought you
so you have put on weight , you can adapt your life style and make a big difference in so many more ways
Have you seen stopping fags as giving up something and so rewarding yourself with too many high cal foods
see it as freeing youself and swap the high cal foods for something else
it doeasnt have to be boring raw carrots ( though they would give you something to do and munch on ) have you tried satsumas peeling would give your hands something to do and they would be less calorific
or what about roasting some chick peas they gave me that munch i was missing on withhout being high in fats
I did put on nearly a stone in weight when I stopped smoking and only in the past few months have started to do something about it
I have started ( well just completed ) the Couch25K running plan downloaded from the NHS website, I cant rate this highly eneough and \i couldnt run at all
this has given me a lift, released those feel good endorphins and made me loo at my new life style in a new light
I have also gone on the weightloss old style thread on here ( will try and do a link )https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3699021
they are a very friendly motivating bunch that will support you in your desire to loose weight
you could also try a hobby if you are not crafty how about a jigsaw to to give your hands something to do
I hope you dont mind my comments
will support you all we can but please ...you dont need those fake fags

The weight gain is one of my big incentives never to smoke again, if I started again, the weight would still be here. I would be even more miserable.
A couple of weeks ago I went to see the nurse and mentioned my weight gain and she essentially said that I had done really well to give up and to stop beating myself up about the weight at the moment. She told me not to diet this side of Christmas. I felt so much better afterwards because I know the weight took 6 months to get on, if it takes 6 months or longer to get off then so be it, at least I'm not smoking.
You've done so well.:T
Thanks JammyDodger for the link to the dieting Old Style thread, I will look into this shortly - maybe after Christmas!!0 -

Thanks MotheroftheKid,
I am hoping to lose a stone before Christmas. I just have no clothes that fit me !!! And I refuse to buy any more big clothes. I am 2 sizes bigger than I was and I just hate it. I feel less healthy than when I smoked.
I have been doing quite well. I know everybody says it is mad of me to buy a fake cigarette after so long. But I only hold it, I'm not smoking it. It is just a mental thing. I seem not to be getting up and raiding the cupboards when I have it in my hand. It is as though I am already doing something.
As I said in my post, I will not go back to smoking again. I can't stand the smell.:rotfl:0 -
Snap Own My Own - I've gone up 2 sizes, sometimes 3 - I absolutely detest clothes shopping - I always have done, now it's 10 times worse because I have had to go and because I am much bigger, I have no idea what suits me, it is absolutely hell. A couple of weeks ago I went to a shop for larger ladies - not sure if I can say the name, E***s and I must say the sales assistant was absolutely brilliant - I am a "pear" apparently!!!
I know what you mean about not wanting to spend any money on bigger clothes, but I had got to the stage where I had no clothes that fitted - not even my underwear!
On the positive side, my skin is fantastic, shame I can't bend down and paint my toe nails though - at least summer's over!
I've bought a skipping rope and managed 100 skips today - needed a lie down afterwards! My mission is to do this every day, it will be easier as each day passes I'm sure!
Good luck with the weight loss and if you have any tips come back and tell us, I'm sure there are other ex smokers who are in the same position.0 -

I do find that brushing my teeth or having an Extra Strong Mint after meals helps. As this is when I would automatically have a cigarette.0 -
Congratulations Hannah!!!!!! You're doing excellently!!! :T:T Stay strong and keep up the wonderful work!

Hi On My Own and very well done on thinking up the above self-help cure to eating! It's very true and does the trick to stop you from tucking-in, after all who likes eating after the mouth is lovely and fresh. Even putting a dab of toothpaste (anytime) onto the tongue and then swirling it all around the mouth is a great mouth freshener and puts you off eating. So girls, keep a tube of toothpaste at the ready - better still, run up stairs each time to do so.......and then run up again, it all helps n losing the additional weight!
Keep some fruit to nibble on and have some carrots and celery ready prepared in the fridge to munch on whenever you start to think food.
Sipping at water at any time of the day does a power of good as it helps fill you. Above all, go on out for a good, brisk walk as much as you possibly can. Start off at a reasonable pace, then after a couple of hundred yards, quicken up, then make it really brisk after another couple of hundred yards. Every time you quicken up it pushes the metabolism up and burns off more calories! :j
Going up stairs twice every time you need to go up doubles the time AND the calorie loss!!!! :j Keep up the skipping and then increase the number after every few days. Above all, have patience and remember....you didn't put the weight on in a short time so be patient while while it slowly starts to come down - it will happen!
Please keep to all the above and anything similar and remember the good it's doing you. Any Dr will tell you that a temporary weight increase far outweighs the awful harm that smoking does to us!
Also, no one can quit on this thread by using a hand-held device!! So, please pop it in a drawer and keep up the GREAT work you started all that time ago!
Be extremely proud of all you've achieved as you've done marvellously!!!! :T:T:T

Hello Everyone
Nice to read so many positive stories, you are all do fantastic and should give yourselves a pat on the back.
Some of you may remember me from the old thread, I quit back in February using a combination of Allen Carr and Champix, I found it incredibly easy to the point I was actually shocked at how long I had been smoking.
Fast forward 5 months to the end of July and I fell off of the wagon, well more like jumped and did a triple somersault!
One wont hurt will it? I wanted to prove to myself that I could have just one and then no more, so I did, it tasted foul to the point I was very nearly sick but I did it had one and no more, well no more that day anyhow. The next day, I did it yesterday and it did not bother me not having another one so lets see if I can do it again today and all of a sudden there it was, the point of no return before I knew it I was smoking 10 a day which is a gigantic improvement on the 30-40 a days I used to smoke, but in the same instance it is also the biggest mistake I made in 2012 by far!
From here everything went down hill, stopped going to the gym, stopped eating healthily carried on puffing away kidding myself that is was OK. Here we are now 3 months on piled on 4 stone, struggling to walk and move about again because my back feels as though it is on fire 24/7 and feel utterly miserable and so annoyed with myself for having that first one. I had no need for it, it was sheer devilment on my part then before I knew it boom back at square one with things a little worst than they were when I started this journey back in February.
For anyone else thinking "oh one wont hurt" believe me it will DO NOT DO IT!!!
So here I am, October and back on the Champix, day 12 today and already I can feel them changing my cigarette experience, they taste foul again and I cannot wait to have the last one, I feel ready now but do not want to tempt fate, another 2 weeks on the Champix, listen to the Allen Carr Easyway book a couple of times and I will be ready for round 2! This time though will be the last, I am more determined than ever now and very rarely make a mistake twice, I fell the odds this time are stacked in my favour, this time I WILL succeed and forever.
Keep up the good work everyone, you are all doing great
I will keep you posted on this second part of my journey.........."You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -
Hi UnderPressure wow what a tale! So sorry to hear about your health complications. You do sound like a force to be reckoned with so am full of confidence that you will do it!
Aww the ole "one won't hurt" trick, whiley and cunning and will get ya everytime! I've fallen foul of it so many times! I love fergie's analogy of taking it one cig at a time
Sorry haven't been about but have been keeping at it. Had a wobble on Fridya when the thought went through my mind of smoking while with a smoking friend but it only lasted a second :beer:DF as at 30/12/16
