For anyone else thinking "oh one wont hurt" believe me it will DO NOT DO IT!!!

I am more determined than ever now and very rarely make a mistake twice, I fell the odds this time are stacked in my favour, this time I WILL succeed and forever.

Well, I never, ever thought I'd be saying these words to you, UnderPressure, but a very warm welcome back! :)

I really can imagine how bitterly disappointed you (and your wife!) must feel, but let it all go now and just continue on in getting your life back to how it had become after quitting and having lived a far better and healthier life for those precious few months. The one great thing in your favour is - you KNOW you can do it all again! Continue on with the Champix until the required time then say tata to fags forever. THEN...as you did before, get the weight loss under control and get yourself free from the terrible back pain you've suffered from for so long as a result of being too hefty.

You can do it though and you have that knowledge, you also have a great support network, both at home - and here! I'm thrilled you got it all together though and are back on the right road to good health!

    Hugs, Sue x

Hiya determined! Thanks so much for bolstering UnderPressure asasp, it's a great help to have such quick response. I hope all's going well for you and that you've now fully settled into your new home.

It was our eldest Granddaughter's 18th yesterday and we all (the entire family) celebrated it in style with a meal out. The evening was terrific and we're all still on a huge high!

Hi Fergie and thank you. I took lots of pics and some secret video which has captured it all to bring to life - magic! :D

You're still doing so very, very well, you know I'm really proud for you and of you for how you've done! :T:T:T I still never thought you'd have started to quit so soon, I thought you were just window shopping so to speak.

In short, Fergie, I truly am thrilled at your success to date!

    Sue x

Keep right on everyone, no matter how far in you are, remember that it truly does get batter. Day by day is the way to do it and look ahead to a bright, fresh and healthier future.

hey all, im back and here to show you my stats, i am now at
Six months, 12 hours, 42 minutes and 35 seconds.
    2936 cigarettes not smoked,
    saving £969.03.
Life saved: 1 week, 3 days, 4 hours, 40 minutes

For all the people that have been talking about putting weight on, i am exactly at the same point, six months not smoking and i have put on roughly 2 and half stone. Even though i have put on weight, i would never go back to the fags, my cousin got diagnosed with throat cancer and that gave me the push to quit.(he had weeks of chemo and is in recovery atm) my dad died 5 and a half years ago of emphysema, which was made worse by him smoking and he is what keeps me off the fags.
Weight can be lost, and so can your life. i would rather lose the weight and keep the life.

Hi again Mandz!! It's really good to see you back and hear how long it's been since you stopped the fags!

Many congratulations on such terrific stats, they really are amazing! :T:T:T:T

So very sorry to hear about your cousin, all the best to him for making a good recovery. I love your thoughts between weight and life, mandz, you're certainly viewing it all in the right light.

Don't forget to come back when you're at a year - or sooner of course as it's always great to see folk with great news to tell. Excellent news, mandz, very well done indeed! :grinheart

  • Hi just wanted to poke my head through the door and say hi  massive congratulations to you prophecy-girl thats fantastic news :j I'm so happy for you!

I have lost track of how long it has been for me as I have had so much going on, what with moving and all the renovations going on  keeping me busy if nothing else!

However my stats say 1 month, 2 weeks and 6 days (date I stopped was 3rd Sept). I keep going and know that at some point nic with p*ss off keep sitting on my shoulder trying to tempt me with "one cig won't hurt" or "you feel stressed? A cig will smooth everything out" or my all time fave "feeling upset? I know what'll make things better..." One cig at a time eh? ;)

Everyone worrying about the weight gain. Yes I know that it is a concern but the reality is we only put weight on if we eat more calories than we burn so try to sip water, eat fruit (satsumas are good, lots of pithe too!) celery, carrot sticks, lower fat options. Go for a walk at lunchtime or a swim a couple of times a week, park further away from the shops and walk that little extra. It honestly isn't quitting smoking that makes us put weight on its the eating more high fat foods.

Anyway those are my thoughts! Sue your grand daughters birthday sounded fun, she is very lucky to have you x

Hiya determined, and oh, how brilliantly you're doing!!!!! :T:T:T Sounds around 7 - 8 weeks that you've been free from those nasty, white sticks, great going for you! You've been through a lot, especially in moving house, but I'm sure, like me you too can even go through moving and STILL remain free from the temptation of those 'orrible little killers! Sorry I couldn't get on before, one of those times.

Keep it up, D, and thanks for a great paragraph above about the weight-gain, perfectly put! :) Re our young treasure, it's us who are lucky to have her too, and her siblings, all are very precious.

You're all doing so well! :T

I empathise with all those battling with extra weight, I was of the mind that I really didn't care about a few pounds extra until those few pounds turned to ten or so :(

With some concentrated effort I did manage to lose about eight pounds BUT this has crept back up again over the winter months, and some. So now I'm beginning to face up to it again as clothes are too tight and I weigh more than I ever have.

Anyway, despite being slightly uncomfortable about my extra weight, I'm still happy to accept that being chubbier is a minor consequence of my being a non-smoker. Remaining a non-smoker is still more important at this stage. I am still within normal BMI and don't have high cholesterol or any other health concerns.

I was reading this article just now which is why I came here tonight to share with you:
Women who give up smoking by the age of 30 will almost completely avoid the risks of dying early from tobacco-related diseases, according to a study of more than a million women in the UK.

The results, published in the Lancet, showed lifelong smokers died a decade earlier than those who never started.

But those who stopped by 30 lost, on average, a month of life and if they stopped by 40 they died a year younger.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-19946427

Which affirms to me that in the grand scheme, a few extra pounds is a very small price to pay for an extra decade of fag free life!
