Sorry I've not been around much, Sue. Checked back into the thread to see how everyones been doing.
I stopped my 40 a day habit back in February this year. I have not smoked 11,640 cancer sticks according to my stats. I can go days at a time without thinking about smoking then I will suddenly fancy one. If I think about it, I don't actually want the cigarette. I know it tastes foul, will leave me smelling horrible and will create a need for more. Perhaps I just feel that I need to know I can have one if I ever want one (unlikely given that I stopped 9 months ago!).
DH still smokes outside. And smells horrible when he comes indoors. Every time he moans about me saying we can't afford something, I turn around and tell him how many weeks worth of cigarattes would pay for it:rotfl:
You can live without cigarettes, it's not scary, just reassuring that you will have the best chance of avoiding respiratory diseases. You can do it, you deserve it. Don't leave it for another week, month, year. You can stop now, yes, even with Christmas coming up. You don't have to wait to the New Year to resolve to ditch the habit. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Hi moneymaker  congratulations on getting so far along in your journey with a smoking partner!
I totally agree with what you have said re the urges. I hardly think about smoking now, apart from when a colleague comes in and really stinks! But every now and then the thought pops in my head - its a weird though cos as you said I don't actually want to smoke, know it would be horrid and offers me NO benefits at all but it comes in nonetheless.
I was out with a group of friends last week drinking and lots of them smoke and the thought went through my mind, but even when having had a few drinks I can think about whether I want to act on this impulse and everytime I think no!
I gave up on 03.09.12 so I'm at about 2months 2 weeks I think? Not sure what with the move and everything life is a blur. Best decision I made this year and it is the very last time I make it!
Hope everyone out there is remaining strong and healthy xDF as at 30/12/16

When we think about it, after all the years we've smoked for, it's only natural that it's going to pop back into our heads every now and then...in the early days. It's that flamin Nick trying to tempt us , but will he?? Not bloomin likely!!!!!! :j:j:j
Considering all you've been through, D, you especially are doing wonderfully well!! I'm so proud of you and I know you are. :grinheart

OK, let's end up with Money maker's wise advice to all those still puffing, but tempted to quit. Please take note, folks.

Hi RFTA and super news of you being already on Day 47!!!! :T I'm so chuffed you've kept going so well
It's amazing what a spell in hospital, no matter what for, can do for smokers....it makes em ex smokers for sure!!! Be proud at how marvellously you've done.

Excellent news 166! So pleased for you both, I guess nothing like a reminder about our health to give us a kick. And I've said it before, and I'll probably say it a million (see what I did there 166???!) times but really once you get over the first few few days the fear that prevents us from stopping is over, we realise its not as hard as we thought it was and on to the maintenance.
Will be 3 months for me on Monday. Very happy to announce that! Still easy and hard. Still battling nic in times of stress, still telling him to p*ss off :rotfl:
Rising 47 days is fantastic, I'm really proud of you :T keep it up lovely and that boiler fund will be urs in no time :j
And to the lovely sue thank you. Hope your health is grand and you are enjoying the lead up to the festive season :A

We must be reading each others minds, determined, I was thinking hard (a rare event) a couple of days ago about how long it is you've quit for and here you are answering it, or what it will be come Monday.
I won't say a word until Monday comes, but...........!
Ere..fancy you telling old Nic to ! I hope it worked as others will know what to do in future!! :rotfl:
I'm fine thanks, a bit busy at the mo due to end of year on the SPC thread and with 1855 members it's a mammoth task! I love it though.
I'll be back Monday, D, and I do hope Fergie and JD will soon be back. Take care.

Hi
Im just about to celebrate my first day in twenty odd years cigarette free after being a 25-30 a day person
Its been surprisingly ok - Ive had moments, but nothing too bad, as there is a packet with 4 left in it still in the drawer I put them in last night.
The Easy Way book has helped so much, it seemed to get me into the right place mentally, which was my big problem - I could not imagine not having another, ever, and felt deprived. The champix has been fine for me so far, made my last few days of smoking taste pretty foul, and I realised that between the book and the champix I needed to seize the opportunity which I now have to do this relatively easily.
I can be as stubborn as a mule when I like, just not applied it to stopping smoking before, but hopefully now, this will work. I can see how easy it would be to pile weight on though, so I need to find something else to do with my fingers at times....
I've only told 2 friends I was planning to stop - I just want to work through this myself for a little while, so its nice to be able to share my delight at making 24 hours with you!
T0 -
tyadog congrats on the 1st 24 hours :T def keep at it .... it's so worth it!
had a hospital appt yesterday - I'm part of a research project so have a questionnaire to fill in every so often and ..... got to tick the NO box beside the "are you a smoker" question :j 1st time ever and it did make me smile.
It does honestly get easier - finally feel able to say that I have had times when I've really struggled - more with the habit side of wanting one when I'm doing something specific, rather than anything else but that's getting a bit better too now. Best of luckGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
