Sue - UU, I didn't know you were the original OP or i could have asked on the SPC thread :wall:

WE are planning to quit 31st December, the other half has promised to quit too :)

MY plan this time around is to get christmas day & boxing day out of the way, then drastically cut back between 27th and the 31st.

Im armed with lots of different NRT, Patches, mints, inhalators, ive also got the Allen Carrs stop smoking book and cds, i'll start on the book boxing day.

I'll have a good read of the thread now i've found it and pop back next week when i've started my above plan :)

    I'm back girl :D:D:D:D:D:D:D xxxx

Me to JD. Hi Sue have been away for two months (no not prison). Great to see so many new faces making the most important decision they will ever make in their lifetime,it was for me anyway.

Statistics say it all over £1300 saved over 11000 fags not smoked in 18months,much more energy.

Just a small problem, when I first stopped other peoples smoke did not bother me. Now my lungs are clearer it bothers me,I have developed a Victor Meldrew syndrome where I'm tempted to snatch a fag from a strangers mouth and stub it out, I will have to deal with it myself.

Anyway Sue let me take this opportunity to wish you, your family and the many followers you have helped over the years.

    A MERRY CHRISTMAS

    AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

Heellloooo there, AlTeREgO, and welcome to the thread where life begins all over again.....and people get even more chances to save! Don't they, JD?!!

It sounds as though you're really determined, AlTeREgO, and determination and willpower's about all you need to get you through it all. It may even be a LOT easier than you thought possible. Bear one important thing in mind...that you are NOT giving anything up, and will only ever gain from stopping fags! Give yourself the greatest gift possible this year - the gift of LIFE!!! See the Quitters Pledge below, many have found it so helpful, I sincerely hope you both do and will soon say goodbye to fags and hello to far better health. Look out for a PM.

    Sue x

    Quitters Pledge
"Today I promise not to smoke any cigarettes, tomorrow - if I wish - I may do."
Renew the pledge every morning on waking. This helps in not making quitting feel as though you're planning something lifelong, it helps trick the mind in taking it all one day at a time. The lifelong part you determine for yourself when you're ready.

    **************************************
Thank you so much for the shout, fermi!!

    Sue x

Oh, bless you dear Denis :kisses3: That was so very sweet and made me quite teary eyed. It's really good to see you back, we'll be able to do with your words of wisdom at the New Year rush, JD, determined, Chrissie, Pam and everyone else too!

A very Merry Christmas to you, to Beryl (we'll get her one of these days...maybe! ;)) and your lass.

Have a wonderful time, Denis, and PLEASE..never give in to that demon again! Though that too will pass, I promise you, no doubt Christmas isn't helping, but YOU won't give in, never!! ;)

    Wishing you the BEST!

To me smoking was a hobby, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Some people read or write poetry. I smoked & loved it, I had no intention of ever stopping. However, I quit smoking with the help of those inhalator things on 19 January 2009 after being diagnosed with breast cancer. I'll never smoke again, I never thought I'd hear myself say that either! I did try before & quit for 6 months, but I craved a fag every single day of those 6 months. I went to the Dr as I wanted to kill people , or throw myself under a bus, my pain was so great. But it's not half as painful as it is today as since the breast cancer I had bladder cancer in August, I've just been diagnosed again :( It's curable, but I regret the day I ever smoked. Thanks for reading this, it's not easy stopping smoking but if I can do it then so can you! Merry Christmas & a Happy & Healthy 2013 to y'all xxx :D

You sound very organised! I quit nearly 8 years ago and I vowed that it would be for ever and it has been. I planned it all, like you, and surprised myself by being so organised that I was actually getting excited about quitting and started my quit a week earlier than I had set as my date. I did it with inhalator and patches and it really was the best thing I have ever done in my life.

I have to add that I was a heavy smoker not someone who had one now and again and I still think it is a miracle that I did it so if I can, anybody can. Best of luck and let us know how you get on.

Thanks for this, I am a heavy smoker :( always have been. I've been smoking now for 22 years  thats over half my life!!
I've had a couple of 'breaks' when i've quit for a little while but get sucked back into smoking :(

I am looking forward to being smokefree in 2013, it will really help that the OH is quitting too, we have decided to save the cash we would normally spend on fags from the get go, and give the whole house a fresh lick of paint with the money we put aside :D

Thank you Sue-UU for the warm welcome as always :) your PM has been saved.

DUKE Thanks for sharing your story, All the best for the future.
Im feeling Postive and ready, i know it wont be easy, but i've got big plans for 2013 and Smoking is holding me back, Im sure those who have now successfully quit, will total understand how something as simple as just smoking can impact on so many other areas of life :D

What I did for several weeks prior to quitting was cleaned an "area" every day and then didn't smoke in that area ever again.
I started in the bedroom and cleaned out the wardrobe - anything that smelt a bit smoky was either washed or drycleaned. I sorted out handbags and suitcases. When it was all pristine I squirted it with air freshener and that became a smokeless zone. I went through the house doing the same because it's amazing how many hidey-holes you have (for smoking gear) and how bits of tobacco get into pockets and bags. I did the car thoroughly too. All ashtrays got binned.

I didn't want to quit and then accidentally come across something which would start me off again and I didn't want to get the faintest whiff of smoke.

The last few days I just smoked at the back door and really couldn't wait to get started because I was so psyched up.

You will be able to do a lot more than a lick of paint with 2 of you quitting! Good luck.

Hi Duke and many congratulations on having finally QUIT smoking!!!! :T I'll bet your Drs love you! :D Were you on either of our previous 3 "Giving up smoking" threads? Just that the name rings a bell. Thank you so very much indeed for telling your story, I sincerely hope it will be an eye-opener to many, inspirational too for others to decide to stop.

All best wishes for your return to good healthy, that so easily could have been me suffering too! I quit a few days less than 14 years ago and can honestly say it's the best thing I ever did! To be free from all the fears of what smoking 'might do to me' is marvellous as it's all I ever thought of and feared. Keep healthy and you're always welcome back to inspire others, advise too. :)

Oh we all so easily understand, AlTeREgO,remember, we've all been where you are now - but know - that it is possible to stare old Nic in the face ans say "I've had enough of you!" Every time you think of one after stopping, remind yourselves of all the plans you have and how smoking is NOT going to hold you back!!!

    Sue x

Hi Pennylane. Many congratulations to you too!!!! :T Thanks for dropping in with more useful tips to motivate those who are quitting, it's always such a huge help to have people care so much.

Many thanks and hope to see you back again to help. PS, what a terrific weight loss!!

    Sue x

To ALL those lurking and hoping to quit
, think hard about it between now and the New Year, you've nothing to lose, but you've so very much to gain! A great time to do this is when others are doing it with you...and there will be a few of those from here on. Give it a try, it's worth that at least - and so are YOU! :)

    Hi all

Just a quick report in - still ciggy free and nearly two weeks now, I'm really pleased!

The champix has definitely been helping, but I'm cutting back on them as they haven't agreed with me in other ways, and I feel that now I am nicotine free and past the withdrawal from that stage its really the habit rather than the cravings I have to deal with.

I feel lucky that I had the champix to get me through the really hard part at the beginning. So, its up to me and wanting to stay as a non smoker now!

Spending so much less at the shops, as Im going there much less often....

Good luck to all those planning to stop over the holidays and those who are continuing to be non smokers too!

That is amazing news, T, VERY well done indeed!!! :T:T

You're wise to cut back on the Champix if they're affecting you, but just not by too much to quick if it can be avoided. They don't always agree with some people; however, they gave you the chance to be where you are now, and it sounds as though you realise that and will do all in your power to stay that way and go on gaining which is terrific!! :D

You can do it, T, and if 'sound' tells us anything at all then it sounds as though you are determined to stay smoke-free!

Just one word of warning: if you drink alcohol then do beware over Christmas to not drink too much or you may be tempted. Keep a clear head..and drink water in between drinks...and you'll be ok.
