  • I think personally internet dating is a wee bit creepy !! why cant people go out for a drink and socialise like are parent and grand parents did and so on. we wonder why are society consists of sheltered people who can't communicate with the outside world, the internet is the main cause of this. Children should interact with multiple people from the day that they are born, this is key to them developing social skills, confidence and sheer common sence.... thoughts please!!!!

I know a few people who met their spouse via internet dating so I certainly wouldn't discount it. Some people live in areas where it's hard to meet people. It's also good if you are not great in pub/club situations because you can get to know the person a bit beforehand. I am utterly useless in pub situations. A friend of mine turned to internet dating because she got hit on too much in normal situations. She is a very old-fashioned woman who always wanted marriage and kids. Unfortunately she was born looking like a Playboy bunny! Whenever we went out men would just approach for sex or because they wanted a trophy girlfriend. When she turned to internet dating she put a picture online that only showed a close-up of her make-up free face and she described herself as wanting to settle down. She then found she got less slimebags approaching her online.

Best of luck OP, I hope you find your geek babe out there. I had the same problem when I was young and single. Most of the Men I met were a bit thick and couldn't hold a decent conversation to save their life, so there will be females out there in the same situation as you.

I agree with the idea of joining a forum for the things that interest you and go from there.
Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.
  • I was thinking of going to that convention but need to save my money a bit at the moment. It does look very good though! :-)

Someone told me today that there's a Real Ale train! lol Now that might be worth investigating! ;-)

I don't discount non geeky girls but it would be really nice to have activities and things that we could both share without the other being bored or simply putting up with it. It would also be nice to meet someone who was on the same 'wavelength' as me. Definitely worth a try anyway! :-)

There is a brilliant convention in Peterborough this weekend! I am gutted to be missing out as a massive geek, but sending the boyfriend (IT nerd) and sister along to take plenty of pictures.

I think there are less girl geeks than boys, but looking at all this lovely posts, we are out there! My boyfriend knew he was in love with me when he saw my DVD collection, all Star Trek, Aliens, LOTR and not a chick flick in sight ;)

I also second the part about real ale- you will always find plenty of girls there that love a geek. Don't discount the non-geeky girls that you might still have a lot in common with.

Oh and I highly recommend online dating, it is how I met the boyfriend... in a way... it was at a mutual friends wedding that met online. Good luck!
  • I don't agree - I work most of the day so getting out and meeting people isn't so easy for me. I also live in a town that has one club that has a reputation for violence (I know one of the bouncers)... not really somewhere I want to go and, although I've been hit on a couple of times in clubs in the past, I've never gotten a worthwhile relationship out of a place like that anyway.

At least on a dating site you know that the people there are open to the idea of meeting someone new. In pubs/clubs you've no real way of knowing whether someone is single and looking/not looking/spoken for.

When you internet date; you DO go out and socialise. The internet bit is just filtering out the weirdos in your pjs, which - if you were a girl - you would know that you can't do if you went out to pubs on your own.

    HTH.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

    I've been Money Tipped!
This trend is pure fun to read. Being a geek and having a passion is a positive thing and you should embrace it.
For some reason I seems to recall that there are slightly more womans than men in uk so chances are that there is one for you somewhere.

Do you play online games (MMORPGs)? It's how I met my hubby (playing Neverwinter Nights online) and how my sister met her hubby too (Ultima Online). All very happily married.

I meet my wife playing Guildwars. It was the last place on earth I though I would find her but life sometimes throws a curveball.

Is anyone thinking what i'm thinking:money:? I'm tempted to say a threesome but it's too early to lower the tone!

Half 6 in the morning is rather early to lower the tone! I believe after 9pm is offical tone-lowering time :p
